I have just received a review of 4 stars, others have always been 5. Although the customer loved the earrings, she did say that the sterling silver ear wires left grey marks on her ears. I buy my silver from a reputable supplier so was surprised by the comment. This hasn’t put her off though and she is going to buy more earrings! I just think this may put people off buying from me. Before I reply to the customer, I was wondering if anyone else has had this type of issue?
Silver does leave a residue if the skin is moist, and a piercing is moist. So, that’s why. The only metal that won’t is gold.
If the silver is tarnished it will leave marks - my fingers end up covered in black marks when I have to straighten out my silver wire prior to use even thought the coil of wire doesn’t look tarnished.
I am aware that my sterling silver wires become tarnished if unsold for a few months even though stored in airtight boxes so always polish them with my special silver cloth before sending out.
