I only have a personal account too and it’s fine.
You need to upgrade - at least that’s what it says here

Also check that your bank is ok with using a personal current account for business - many aren’t. But there are plenty of free or low cost business accounts on offer ![]()
Oh that’s great, thank you ![]()

I use my personal account, i enquired a couple of yesrs ago and paypal told me i only need a business account if I expect to sell X amount, cant’ remember what amount X was but i remember laughing and saying i wouldn’t ever need it. However if i do a transaction direct with a customer they charge me, even when i have tried doing is as ’ friends and family’, they are actually treating it as a business account but I don’t have a separate one for Folksy.
I have 2 PayPal accounts, 1 for business and 1 personal. I just thought it would be easier should the inland revenue ever want to check my accounts. I just wish we could pay for the plus account through PayPal so I can keep everything together.
I use personal paypal.
Thank you ![]()
Personal one for me too.

I used to have a PayPal business account, which I was going to change for my new venture, but PayPal is being tricky about changing details. However, I’ve discovered you can now link a seller profile or business to your personal PayPal and set up a Seller Profile on your personal PayPal account. It will give you a business specific PayPal.me link and looks separate from your personal account.
You can even create invoices with your business logo and details on it, even your business email address, so you can keep your personal details safe.
PayPal: What is a seller profile and how do I sign up?
Having said that, if you are setting up a business where you may have your own website or eCommerce site, maybe sell at markets, fairs and expos and need a card terminal (PayPal does iZettle), interface invoicing with shipping, etc, then you’ll definitely need a PayPal Business Account.
I only earn below X amount, I’m certain. Would be perfectly legal to use a bank account and Paypal that is for personal use rather than a business account. I Would like to switch to a personal account if I can as the Paypal business account is a complete pain, but I don’t know would deal with a refund request from a personal Paypal account. How do you do this?
I am sure mine is a personal account, when I asked Paypal 11 years ago about having a business account they said it wasn’t necessary for small earners and to keep the one I already have.
I do still pay fees still on any sale transactions done outside my Folksy shop, PayPal automatically charge me the same as they would with a business account. I also often send refunds for overcharges on International postage etc and don’t have any issues. Go to PayPal activity, click on the transaction you need to refund and click refund this payment, it’s really straight forward. Click on the transaction, enter the amount you want to refund and that’s about it, there’s a box to enter text to the customer.
Thank you, that is very helpful. Paypal have given me no end of trouble with the business account, they have limited my account and I can’t get my money and I can’t pay my Folksy fees. If it is not resolved, I will set up a personal account and use that. Thank you so much.
I hope you get it sorted Marina
Thank you so much, I hope so too. More delays with Paypal unlocking my account today. I am getting worried that they will keep my earnings and my shop will get closed. I was doing so well for a newbie but I am not good at the technical stuff that I need to know for Folksy. It is making me so sad.
