What workshops, webinars and/or events would be useful for you?
Next month we’re running a workshop for Plus members on selling in person at markets and one on how to build your reputation as a maker. Then in October it’s our ‘Shop Early for Christmas’ shopping event.
We’ve also got a Pinterest workshop planned in January or February, as well as another Seconds Sunday event.
But what would you like to see (and what would help you most) in November and December - as obviously they’re the busiest months - and in 2024?
Could you do an internal questionnaire and report the findings. We could all do with some tips on making our shops more successful. Maybe it would be too much work to collate. But sometimes shop owners know more about Folksy than external experts.
There are some sellers on here that have sold 1000s of items! And some only a few but more expensive items.
What makes folksy successful for people?
Which social media platforms work for shop owners?
Which months do people sell more in?
Have they changed anything and become more successful selling? I personally changed my shop name to my name and I think that helped.
Are good photographs important?
Is a good description/tags important or do people buy visually?
Is price important?
How many hours do people work on there shop on average?
Anything else people can think of.
I’m sure we’d all be interested in what works for some people. Not every shop owner visits the forums, infact it’s probably a miniscule number. So a general call out and would be useful.
As Sue @SueTrevor suggests ‘what works for some people’ - perhaps share some tip’s, we all know we’ve got to invest time and effort in ‘improving shops and Social Media’ but time is precious so any quick fixes, shortcuts or ideas that people find really useful and want to share.
Perhaps you could introduce a ‘tip of the month’ for people to try and later on ask for feedback on how useful people found them - that way we could identify what works (or what doesn’t) quickly.
Seeing as there are now very many sellers here who used to sell on a certain platform that begins with E… it would be helpful to have a central resource or a workshop or something to help them acclimatise! I know when I started out I struggled with certain aspects of the Folksy shop dashboard that didn’t function in the same way as I’d been used to (f’r example the overlap between out of stock/expired listings still confuses me… you can ONLY bulk edit postage costs but the list isn’t sortable by postage cost so you have to scroll through the entire list to flag the ones you want to change… the searchable ‘All’ listings is a separate sidebar entry and not under ‘Listings’… you can only upload photos one at a time…) Lots of small things that are fully functional but different from what we’ve been used to. I know I’d have found some guidance very helpful at the beginning. Even a roundup of @JOYSofGLASS 's ace work-arounds would be a terrific resource! And yes I know a lot of this info is out there somewhere in the blog or the Help or the forums but it’s often not easy to find it… and remember, ex-E… sellers are just not used to being able to contact Support and get actual human help from someone who knows what they’re talking about, so it would be worth flagging that up too!
Pinterest in January is great, as many people are looking at what to change and how to grow in the New Year.
My own sales are normally pretty seasonal, and I wouldn’t normally have time to look at any workshop/planning/new tools type event in November or December. Of course this year may well be different - 2023 sales currently down 40% on last year.
Thank you… I Definately need Pinterest help @folksycontent I have lots of boards all with the same items on as I had absolutely no idea what it was about or how it worked and still tend to add my newly made item and run then totally forget about it for months.
I looked at starting a blog and other social media i.e,Twitter, I managed to open a twitter account but that was it and have never been on since
I would like to do a blog but not sure whether it is really worth the time needed.
It would be interestesting to know from other sellers and from the Folksy team which one or two areas of social media we would be best concentrating on.
I also like the idea @SueTrevor suggested about what works for sellers.
Here’s what we have planned for the rest of 2024 but if you have any other suggestions for workshops, webinars or events that you’d like to see this year or in the future, please do let us know by leaving a comment.
Just seen this and realised I havn’t watched the marketing/newsletter one from this month yet which could be very informative. June sounds interesting.
Hi @folksycontent, I would be interested in what social media posts to include for my business that are not specifically selling posts. I do a lot of WIP posts but do struggle for other ideas. I don’t add a lot of personal posts or photos unless i have been away or an odd concert pic as I don’t want it to be full of personal stuff. I am always repeating photos of the same bears as I can’t make them quick enough to have new content more than once a week or 2/3 items every 2 weeks (as I have been doing recently) Any ideas for regular posts other than work in progress, is it better to post everyday or would it be better every few days if I havn’t got enough material.
Is this something that has already been done by Folksy ? Or could you suggest any other SM content please. Thank you
For a change, so you are not just showing bears, you can always share a selection of pieces from other sellers or a specific something you have spotted from another seller or even just a lovely picture which has caught your eye and which you think others would like. I find this has only good benefits as it can attract attention which then increases reach of feeds of your own things. I also Do include the odd personal post here or there and do that quite deliberately so that my feed is not just one promotion of my own glass after another…
Thank you Joy,
I do need to start doing Folksy boards again with other sellers items on, I’ve got a bit lapse recently with it all. I really like your idea of sharing things that I have seen and like online and pieces from other sellers that I have found so will look at that.
Kim did something a few months ago with pieces she owned and would like to own from other sellers and I liked the idea so might have to stalk her page to see what she did as well
I was racking my brain last night for more ideas and thought perhaps some of my old PRE Bearlescent creations, not just bears, I have a house full of pictures and other bits, also snippets of the workroom, organising etc.
I will make a note of the ideas so I can look back when I’m at a loss of what to post and maybe take some photos of my other pieces around the house that can be included. I will add a few more personal posts as well.,
