When is a new shop published and visible to public?

Hi, I’m preparing to create my shop, and doing lots of reading and research - but I can’t find anything about when the shop/page is visible. I want to create it all in draft first and then ‘publish’ . Is this possible? I’m nervous about starting the whole process and having to do it all in a one-er. Building it over a day or two is more my style. thanks for reading! Julie

Your shop front is visible as soon as you set it up, listings however can be saved to draft and then published when you are ready. So you could set up your shop front with a banner saying ‘coming soon’ whilst you are beavering away writing the listings and popping them in your draft folder.

Gosh, good question. I’m not sure. I think most people start with one of the Folksy banners and then replace it when they’ve got one ready, but of course you could just upload one you’re happy with right from the start. Same with the avatar. You’ll probably find you’ll tweak it over time, I think most of us do.

I wonder if new shops are visible before they have any listings? I genuinely don’t know I’m afraid. But I’d say you’d be best to list at least a few items right at the start. That way you’ll appear on the New Shops list on the front page for a day or two.

Edit - Oops Sasha beat me to it.

Thank you! That’s exactly the information I need - very helpful. I’ll carry on beavering away! Julie

Thank you! I’m just starting to get ready - perhaps I should be completely ready before I begin… I’ll get working on it! Julie

Have you found the Seller’s Handbook on the folksy blog?

I expect you have, but just in case you haven’t, it’s a really good information source.

Thank you - yes I think I’ve been everywhere - going round again! There’s so much to read and plan. Just looking at the ICO stuff now - will I ever have time to make anything ever again???

You will! Then if you’re anything like me, you’ll make and make and make and procrastinate the photo taking, editing and listing. I always blame the light being “wrong” when really, I’m just avoiding doing the bit I don’t like very much…
