Wool Flannel?

Does anyone know anywhere in the UK where I can buy Wool Flannel fabric? I’m seeing “Flannel” fabric everwhere, but it’s cotton - sometimes they even call it wool flannel when it’s made of cotton!

I used to be able to buy US manufactured wool flannel in small packs, which was imported by UK sellers to sell here as medical grade wool flannel, which people use as ‘packs’ with castor oil as a remedy for various health issues but I can’t seem to find it anywhere now. I’m guessing that the health user people have moved over to cotton flannel as it works okay for them.

In case anyone’s wondering, I use it as needle pages for my needlebooks / sewing cases. I also use wool felt and blended wool felt for some of them but wool flannel is something very different - an old fashioned type of fabric I guess but brilliant for small needlebooks.

Hey,
You’ve probably found and checked these places out but a quick search found a couple of places with 100% wool flannel advertised. Called Fabworks and FabricUk.
Hope that helps.

You may want to try this company, they make traditional fabrics for re-enactment, museums and the TV/film business. I’ve bought gorgeous stuff from them for medieval clothing. You can send for samples.

Thanks so much Sharon, that might be a solution - what a wonderful business! I’ve got in touch with them to see which of the undyed wools they have might be suitable :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks Lou :slightly_smiling_face: Yes, they came up on my Google searching and no, they only have either poly/wool mixes or everything is dyed… Supply and demand I guess!
