Wow! What an afternoon

Yesterday afternoon two friends and myself when to RSPB Minsmere to see the murmuration of starlings. What a stunning display they put on, it lasted from about 5.15 until dusk at 6.00. Well worth standing in -5 for a hour.

Those photos look amazing! I’ve seen this myself but not as many birds as those in the photos.

These photos are awesome. There is a massive murmuration of starlings in Leek at the mo. They have been roosting in the park at night after a couple of hours of flying about together. There must be thousands of them. The noise they make once they settle in the trees is incredible, they are so load. The sound of bird chatter is very eerie when it’s totally dark. I must say they make a very smelly mess too. The cars in the area all look like they have measles with all of the mucky splatters on them and the ground is so thick with droppings that you can feel your feet slipping in it as you walk. It really stinks too. It’s fascinating to watch them making shapes in the sky and trying to guess what shape they are trying to emulate. I have a great view of them from my bathroom window, where I can watch without been pooed on . They have been here for weeks now.

I saw that once before but I didn’t know what it was. It all happened so fast and I was caught off guard. Well, I know now! That does look awesome!

Thank you all for your lovely comments. So glad we dared to brave the cold, and it was just so so cold even though we all had so many layers on we resembled Michelin men.
