Anyone ever been robbed ? A rant

I hope the hotel fire the cleaner, they could have been in on the whole thing, leaving the door open on purpose.
My dad had just got to his accommodation on a trip to Spain, a guy on the street asked him the time, while dad was distracted the guy leaned into my dads hire car window and nabbed my dads bag with credit cards in it!!

Oh Joy really sorry to hear your bad news. It’s terrible that some people have to do this to you especially when it’s your first time in Tenerife. Has it put you off going there again. I think I would be a bit suspicious about the maid leaving your balcony door open, do you think she was in on it.
I hope someone catches them and stops them from doing it to other people.
Also hope your hubby isn’t feeling too sore after his little accident.

We both agreed last night that despite the time spent with the Police and Medical teams and a few traumatic moments we would willingly and very happily go back again as we were so pleasantly surprised once we got there and really had a super time. If you drive up into the mountains, which we did as Bob will drive anywhere including corkscrews along precipice mountains (!), the scenery is sensational. Had some brilliant fishy meals as well and it was soooooo nice not to have to wear a coat, boots, socks…and my tan fromlast September has reappeared.
As Bob said, as least we didn’t have a fire !

Don’t know about the maid but after the second time we found it open, having already reported it the first time, we had a pretty heated conversation with the management.

Bob isn’t feeling sore… yet… but we’re going to the doctor tomorrow to have his wound checked which means that dressing is going to have to come off …ouch. Don’t think I’ll stay in the room next week when he has the stitches out. We know when he has to do what as I used Google to translate the medical report from the hospital !

Oh no this sounds like it just got worse for you both.

I wouldn’t be suprised if it was the cleaners who were in on it too. Like someone else said they just wanna make some quick cash fingers crossed karma comes knocking for them.

Glad your husband is doing OK

I thought I was having a bad time having been burgled earlier in the week but at least all they got was ‘stuff’ and the insurance will cover it. I hope you are both on the mend soon and it hasn’t put you off travelling.

Sasha that’s awful x

No that is worse. We were not in our home so not affected by 'personal space invasion’
There are some awful people out there. Fortunately a small minority. Hope You are OK xxx

We’ve been to Tenerife a couple of times and we stayed over the other side of the Island which is a very quiet part which is very pretty too, I think it was called Puerto de la Cruz its where the parrot park is. We decided we’d had enough of that so one year chose to go to Lanzarote which we preferred more.

So sorry to hear this Joy. It’s such a shame your camera and the photos you’d taken are gone. I hope your husband is recovering now.

We’re being philosophical about it, it was a fairly surgical strike with no mess (but there is rather a lot of finger print powder I need to clean up now), we weren’t specifically targetted they just saw a dark house so tried their luck. S**t happens but thats what insurance is for, we’re OK and they didn’t get the bits that are important to us.
A habit he has that is probably good for everyone to adopt is he takes the memory cards out of the camera when he leaves it at the hotel (even if the camera is in a safe) and one comes with us, the other one he puts it somewhere else in the room so if someone breaks in and takes the camera they won’t get the memory card.

We were planning on a trip to Cuba next winter break but Bob doesn’t really fancy such a long flight for a short break so I have agreed that I’m quite happy to do another of the islands instead, We did get round most of Tenerife, in fact Puerto was about the only area we didn’t get to.
Could well be Lanzarote next time. Any suggestions for best area to go would be welcome. We chose hotel at posh end of Costa Adaje this time as our friends had been there.

The removal of the card is a great idea, it will fit in my wallet quite easily. .
I normally have my laptop with me and download daily off the camera card and onto an external drive not the laptop itself - as I name all photos prefixed with the date so easier done daily.
I didn’t take the laptop with us fortunately (as it didn’t therefore get stolen) or unfortunately (if I had had it with me I would have done something about the safe - but safe was not big enough for both laptop and camera).
I hope the thief is also enjoying my photos of our French holiday in September last year as I had left them on the spare card (which was in the camera bag) as well as downloading them and never got round to clearing them off.

We stayed in a brilliant finca in the middle of lanzarote inbetween the big white sculpture on a roundabout and some vineyards/ wine tasting places (El Grifo was really good which might explain why the description is a bit vague). Since it was in the middle of the island it was an easy drive to everywhere else. The organised walks on the lava flows are worth booking yourselves onto.

Bob is fine thank you and has gone out for a drink. Only problem is i have to help him on and off with his shirt so it doesn’t get stuck to the dressing as we are wary of disturbing it until the doctor checks the stitches tomorrow. I’ve shown him photos - he is impressed !

Can’t quite remember the place we went to in Lanzarote but I know it was only about 20 minutes from the airport. The only thing with Lanzarote is that it can get quite windy on the beach.
We went to the Cayman Islands last May and it’s beautiful. We flew over Cuba as we flew from Tampa in Florida, that was because we were staying in our villa in Orlando for 2 weeks first.
My hubby has been saying he would like to try Cuba as well.
I think it might have been near playa blanca because that was only an hours ferry journey to feurteventura

That’s awful! So sorry to hear. My husband business got robbed a few years ago. We were pretty devastated, but at least we didn’t have any personal stuff really. But it makes you soooooo angry! Why does anyone feel it’s Ok to take someone else’s stuff. Grrrrrrrrrr!

I felt totally shaken up for 24 hours but at least it wasn’t our home space and at least we were out - imagine if someone came into your hotel room when you were in bed.

Would you stay under the covers as quiet as a mouse or leap up (naked !) and confront them hoping they didn’t have a knife. They certainly had something sharp metal as they cut the padlock off my case !

PS I wore Pj’s the rest of the holiday just in case

The first time I was burgled about 15 years ago (the recent one was the second time) we were in, the guy woke me up when he opened the bed room door and not thinking about it I went to see what was going on (in my not very covering pjs). Apparently I’m a scary sight when I start shouting blue bloody murder as the guy legged it sharpish and police caught him a couple of hours later having been chased out of another house by another lady in her pjs!
