Barclays new tv ad

I had 2 emails to day on my folksy business email account that’s shown in my profile bit of my shop asking for discounts on my new table runners. I’ve politely refused.

and so you should Eileen! Let’s see if they want them enough to pay the proper price.

That’s so cheeky, you did right to refuse.

The media have a lot to answer for. A bit like watching Bargain Hunt etc…we are all being encouraged to ask for discounts on items. …That is something that years ago we would never have dreamed of doing. I already keep my prices as low as I can afford and would not be happy being asked for a discount. You were right to refuse Eileen.

Hopefully most people will be aware that they can miss out if they leave one off things in their baskets for too long , as someone else can nip in and have it.

@EileensCraftStudio I have had similar in the past and have replied that there is a postage discount if they order more than 1 item  It always throws me when people ask at craft fairs too .

If it isn’t clear what delivery charges are, or whether a discount code will work I will often shop and then abandon a shopping cart if I don’t like the total price.

Sometimes I start off putting things in the basket with the intention of spending enough to get free postage but can’t find anything I want and don’t want to pay a large postage charge on less so I will abandon the cart.

Its up to the retailer to have a “cart clearing” program that removes items if stock control is an issue.

I don’t have a problem with Barclays promoting this - I would be more shocked if they pointed out that sometimes you can order more than you want in order to get free postage and then return the unwanted item for free.

All UK sites have to show the cost of postage before the item goes into the shopping basket it’s EU law unlike American online selling.

I find it rude to put things in my shopping cart then just leave them there because I’ve changed my mind. I know how that can be a problem for sellers.

Here on Folksy it’s there for 24hours before it goes back into your shop. In that time someone else could have bought the item and had it still been available. But because someone has left it in their shopping basket/cart and it’s no longer available and a real buyer will not think to come back later just in case it’s not really been sold.

On folksy sellers are not mass producers who have 100’s of one items available for sale.

Just how long should a Seller allow a item to remain in a shopping cart before its returned to general sale? 10minutes, 1hour, 24hours 7 days ?

Pretty soon shops will all degenerate to the level of a bazaar, and we will all double our prices so we can haggle down a “discount” to what the price should have been in the first place. Such a waste of life!

Oh, and I’m still looking out for that courier company that provides free postage services.
