I fully understand the divided opinions about this topic and took a day to think about it myself. I have never ben a big fan of none “European traditions”…But as I am very new to the Folksy and just recently started to promote my work, I have decided to give it a try and see whether it attract some buyers… Thanks Folksy!! Fingers crossed!
I’ll be offering a Black Friday discount this year. 20% for the Black Friday period. I’d love a bit of promotion - I need all the help I can get at the moment.
I’m going to give it a go as I’ll probably be closing my Folksy shop in the new year anyway (sad times). I’ve set the code up ready to go at 20%, just need to remember to activate it and crack on with the tagging etc.
I would love to join this one too as my traffic and sales have halved this year from last year. I’m not a fan of Black Friday either but I’m trying to build a customer base and if a one off discount for Black Friday helps then I’m in. I will be offering 25% over the weekend and will set my website to match too. Thanks for the opportunity Camilla @folksycontent
Hi Pat - I have to agree with you about raising prices. My background experience of this comes from working with my husband who used to be the shop manager for a visitor attraction, combined with my previous incarnation as an antiques dealer. We found that if something refused to sell, putting the price up was amazingly effective. I just wish I had the guts to do this with my own stock; I am constantly told that my prices are too low for one-off items. Unfortunately it seems to be a problem with most creatives; we undervalue ourselves.
PS - I feel your pain with Twitter, but it does get easier. If you are ever really stuck just type your query into Google; you will find answers and realise you are not the only one who finds it impenetrable at times!
Tut tut!! But the whole point of living in a country where speech and actions are (mainly) free is that you can make your own decision. I really don’t know whether this strategy will work for anyone, but I can’t afford to take the risk. I hope it works for you. I think it would be a really good idea to review this after the rush (hopefully!) has died down and see if it has any positive impact on sales.
Is it really going that badly for you? A look at your shop suggests that you are making sales and getting good feedback. This is becoming quite scary with the number of people saying that sales are down. Good luck - I hope it works out for you.
I don’t really like the Black Friday idea and interestingly even Asda have announced they will not be taking part this year! I would prefer it if Folksy steered away from it however as it is going ahead if others want to take part then fair enough. I may have been tempted to join in with a few items if it was possible to apply different discounts to different items but as it is only possible to apply a shop wide fixed discount there is no way I could afford to get involved, margins are too tight.
Thank you Camilla. I’ve decided I will definitely try out a 10% discount for my shop, https://folksy.com/shops/silverbirchstudio, for the whole weekend. Fingers crossed, we’ll see what happens. Still not too sure about where to put the tags, though - and what is a tagline? Sounds like a new kind of pasta!
Hello. I’d like to give this a try please too and will be offering a 10% discount code in my shop https://folksy.com/shops/menagerie .I’ve recently added greetings cards to my listings and would love more traffic their way and generally too.
Hi
I’d like to try this too please. It will be interesting to see how it impacts on sales and views. I will offer 15% off for the weekend.
Kind regards
Ali
It is, unfortunately. I used to sell really well and often made the charts. This downturn started about 18 months ago for me. Any passing traffic I used to get just completely stopped so I figured if I have to drive all traffic myself I might as well drive it to a site that was practically free to run. So, that’s why I set up my own (and also went back to E). It’s a real shame, as it was a fantastic source of income and I still truly love its ethos. This should be the busiest time of year and my views are in single figures. In the last month I had one sale. It used to be several per week (way back when). I wish everyone lots of luck and will always keep an eye on Folksy to see if seems worth returning to but, for me, for now, it’s just no longer working. (Gosh that’s a depressing post…!)
You have some lovely things though, and they will sell well elsewhere as you’ve proved. It is very quiet here these days. Hope we all get an upturn here on Folksy soon
I’m not a big fan of Black Friday and I understand peoples reservations, but each shop have to decide for themselves whether to take part or not.
I think people who are getting involved will be sharing and informing their followers on Facebook, Twitter, blogs etc and it’s a good way to get the Folksy name ‘out there’. Hopefully it will bring new shoppers to the site as well as regulars and that can only be a good thing for Folksy. Especially if those ‘new’ shoppers then become regulars.
I will not be taking part myself but it will be interesting to see if those who do take part will see an increase in traffic.
