Closing Shop - Goodbye!

I am closing my shop as soon as I can make it happen but I did want to say a fond farewell to all you lovely people. I will be back as a customer though.

This is all due to a great big long story but the highlights are:

  • a drunk driver took down the garden wall
  • it turns out only clerical business use was covered on our home insurance and selling my sewing on Folksy was not OK. The insurance asked me to cancel my policy which was much nicer than them voiding it. (I can still claim against the drunk driver directly to their insurance)
  • to switch to business (non-clerical) the cheapest policy available is over £600 higher than our existing insurance
  • to buy the right insurance I would be selling everything at a loss so I might as well give it away… which is exactly what I am going to do!

I am sorry to not be a Folksy seller anymore but such is life.

Good luck everyone - I shall look forward to seeing what you are all up to on Instagram and Facebook.

That’s awful, driven out of business by an insurance company.
Best wishes for the future.

Thank you. It does seem like a lot of money and I just can’t justify it business wise at the moment. Maybe when I retire the numbers will make more sense! Kx

Thank you. I will miss the forums but I shall be on Folksy, Instagram and Facebook and I will still enjoy seeing what everyone is making. Kx

So sorry to hear that. A few years ago I became concerned for exactly the same reason that we had not told the insurance company (Lloyds) that I was working from home and when we did they cancelled us immediately. Fortunately though we found a company who do cover us (Admiral I think). It seems one set of underwriters will cover you but another set won’t.

Thanks, Joy. I can see you encountered similar madness! I use a broker because our house has had structural work historically and none of the online cheap ones can do anything that isn’t bog standard. It’s not been a problem until now but when the business thing came up (through questions asked related to the drunk driver) the current insurer insisted we cancel and the brokers have been putting things through their system and have been really helpful but it just wasn’t going to work out financially… this has been going on for weeks. I do not understand what they think the huge risk is because I will still be sewing but they didn’t like that my address was on the receipts. Maybe in a few years I will be retired I will try again but for now I just need to insure my house!
