I have been given advice to talk on on as many forums as possible to promote my shop. However, I can talk without a problem face to face but on social media I find it hard. So Blah blah blah. :rofl:

Know the feeling Steve, I can talk the hind leg off a donkey face to face, but putting pen to paper or fingers to keyboard and I dry up, getting better though.

We just need to try harder, as my teachers used to say

I am better putting pen to paper hence why I have resurrected my blog. Face to face I am a wreck.

We had endless courses when I did a proper job and part of them was to talk for 3 minutes, hated it. DH was excellent both written and oral.

I was talking to my granddaughter the other day, she had to give a talk at school and hated it. I told her that when I had to stand up and speak my knees knocked but I had no problem standing at the front of a stage and singing to an audience if 1000. Think it was because when singing you always know the words.

I could never do it at school, choked when had to answer a question but later in life I always ended up in jobs where I had no choice to talk. I must have unknowingly challenged myself. But putting down on paper no chance, think thats why I always struggled with exams .

I am totally the opposite. I’ll chat online to strangers all the time but face to face :flushed: until I get to know people then I don’t shut up :joy:

I’m lucky that I enjoy talking but do get nervous if it’s a new forum or group. I found that during various lockdowns, doing some live videos to Facebook and Instagram really helped and now just get on with it.
In my day job I do mediation and coaching so all about chatting but when it’s talking about yours or hubbys work, art and passion it feels harder sometimes.
I think customers appreciate seeing you and knowing that you are human, in lives anything can go wrong and often the dog decides to join in but if you just deal with it and are not stressy or even treat it with humour customers see a side of you they wouldn’t normally.
People like to buy from those they feel they know and like, if you can find a way to build rapport it also builds trust in you and your product. Share your passion

Why I think its easier face to face is that you see facial and body reaction. Its a way of seeing if there is real interest or just politeness.

Keep practising! And don’t be shy of telling your followers that you’re nervous. I found talking on Instagram Stories excruciating at first (I still do to an extent) but it does get easier with time… I found my followers really supportive - I get more DMs after a ā€˜chatting video’ than any other type of post!

Practice it is then. Thank you

Ditto. And then I’ve the added problem in that I type too quickly which means text gets highlighted and then when I press the space button POOF it’s gone. This is a regular occurrence. Hubby says its because my mind goes faster than my typing!

Predictive spelling doesn’t always help :sob:.

The answer to do assuming you are typing on a laptop… as that used to happen to me, frequently just as you descrbe. is Not to use the touchpad but get a mouse.

Thank you, fully understand your frustration. It’s not really the touchpad. It’s the speed I type and then wanting to change something I’ve typed. Up goes the curser and WHOOF it highlights everything and before I see that I’ve touch the return key. It is my own fault. I just need to take more care, and not believe that I need to be in such a hurry anymore now that I work for myself and not being paid to get something typed up ā€˜like yesterday’.

I also type very fast. I’ve touch typed since my teens. What i nornally do is collect at the end of my typing all the spurious characters I type along the way which I quickly overtype. This ā€œā€ cttcih ehensuny twhw"" is my current collection

In my IT life I had a lot of European customers who received lots of long and complex missives from me. One phoned me one day and asked for a translation of the garbage paragraph at the end which I had neglected to remove before hitting send. Kept us and the customer amused for a good part of that day
