Do we need a Business account on pay Pal?

Hi Brenda, after you have logged in to paypal you should see an icon that sort of looks like a head and shoulders (circle over a curve) in the top right hand corner of the screen. That should be your profile. If you click on that it should bring up a drop down menu which might say settings or it might have an icon of a cog. That should take you to your settings if you click on it. I’ve said should rather a lot as we might be running different versions of the paypal dashboard which could put things in different places… Hope this is helpful anyway.

Brenda, I joined in 2006 too. I can’t find what version I’m on either, and I’m not too bad with this stuff usually. I just don’t think it says anywhere. To get to your profile just click on the cog icon next to the log out button top right of your screen. Under account option is where you get the link to upgrade to Business. I wonder if we’re both on Premier and if we had just personal accounts it would give us the option to upgrade to Premier or Business. If anyone’s got a personal account and can check what upgrade options you’ve got that would be great

thanks for that Jo…I worry about clicking on things…Panic mode could set in.
Paypal is working ok for me right now so I will leave it. As a pensioner on low income, I really don’t want to get involved in anything complicated that might have repercussions…
I do everything above board…tax etc (lucky to have an accountant friend who does it for me) but I cannot see the benefit for me to upgrade…if it ever happens that we are forced to, I might have to reassess my shops…I would hate to have to go back to craft fairs !!

thank you Sasha…I will take a look…eeek…panic setting in…lol

I remember last year when I joined Folksy it said during the set up I needed a Premier or Business PayPal acc, and it provided a really simple flow chart of how to change it. On the PayPal website it literally was just a click of a button.
Now I tend to just use the PayPal app on my phone (it’s really helpful if you don’t use it already). But when I log into the website on a computer it does say it’s premier account.
Until I have to change it again for what ever reason I’m going to leave it. PayPal will send me an email to inform me if I’m no longer going to be able to receive payments through the Premier acc.

I looked on my account and it just appears to be a normal account but works well for me…so far…if I have to change it I am not sure I would want to do that…or would just go into panic mode about it…
What are the repercussions of changing it to a business account?..why would I want to do that? Would it cause me any problems…I am after all just a pensioner who paints and sells a few things to help eek out the pension and help with the bills. I am registered as self employed…which is also silly as even with my pension I am not even half way near the tax threshold…but I do it to be legal…
It seems silly to say I am a business when it is a hobby that brings in pin money…bad enough having to fill in tax forms (which thankfully a friend who is an accountant does for me)
By changing to a business paypal, surely that is saying Hey I run a business…which I don’t.

If it works for you, don’t mess with it. And certainly there are no repercussions at all in changing to a premier account and I doubt there are for changing to a business account, it just gives you a few extra features that you wouldn’t use anyway. If Paypal consider that the volume of your transactions is high enough for you to need to change they will tell you I’m sure, until then, don’t worry about it.

Thanks Helen…feeling better now…lol

Yep this is what paypal told me business was really for those who had loads of transactions like a large business, and unless they thought my account was having that kind of traffic there was no need to change it.

I ask them this after opened my folksy shop. I’d been using it before that for my ebay account. So I’ll only change it when paypal says to change it.

I’ve had no problems using my personal account with Folksy. I don’t remember when I opened my folksy account if folksy even suggested I required a business account. The only reason I asked paypal was because someone asked me if I required a paypal business when I told them I’d a folksy shop. It got me thinking so I rung and checked with paypal.
