Do you have a social media routine?

I joined Facebook many years ago really just to keep photos of my makes etc, but social media is such a big part of selling online now and with all the talk about promoting Folksy and our shops, I am curious to know how everyone manages their posts. I don’t post every day because I struggle with content and in case people get fed up with me, but this is how my week usually pans out on FB and IG.

Monday - Usually post a new make because I spend Sunday afternoons sewing.

Wednesday - Something other than sewing eg What’s going on in the garden/ Where I went at the weekend/ Local event coming up (Usually only post to FB on Wednesday)

Friday - Has to be #folksyfriday !

Saturday - I change my profile on FB, usually to the make from Monday’s post if it hasn’t yet sold :pensive:, something else if it has . Or I share a Folksy Friday board if someone has been kind enough to include me.

That’s a loose plan for each week and I add/take out things as I go (bit like my weekly meal plan!). I like sharing Folksy posts, but I am a bit random, so think I’m going to make it a regular Sunday thing so that at least I remember to do one a week .

I’m curious about managing time on SM, what makes a good post, replies, groups, anything really to be more effective and less anxious!

When I get up, the laptop goes ON…I wake myself up with a couple of puzzles…sudoku, phrazle, wordle and waffle…just to get the brain working.
Next I check my emails for any sales …hopefully…then I go to facebook to check messages on there. Next it is here to Folksy and to the forums where I show my listing of the day and as promised on the challenge thread, work my way through “liking” everyone’s items. Then I go back to facebook to show my folksy listing and sometimes show it on Market place…
Then it is on the exercise bike for 30 mins then I check my emails again…and pop back on the forums for updates…in the afternoon I paint, take photos , download and list them…more pedalling…then a walk down the road and back ( my daughter and I have done this every day for 3 years…but just a few hundred yards ). Back for food, more folksy checks, more painting, emails and bed.

I schedule a post every day if have enough new creations. Schedule on fb business manager which automatically goes onto Instagram. Each day copy the post to my own timeline then share on groups I am on.
Visit Instagram about late afternoon and heart all posts from others that also follow me, the same for FB.
Posted this morning a video of my new journal on You Tube, tomorrow will show on Folksy forums and schedule the photos again on to FB and Insta.
During the day constantly visiting Folksy forums to check I have visited and loved everyone’s post.

I joined FB last April as a result of creating my shop in February 2022 and realising the necessity. The only social media I had ever joined before that was Pinterest, which I just treated as a huge ‘pin board’ for my interests. There are so many Ads on there now, it has changed a lot over time.

I try to post 3 times a week to FB, whether I have new makes or not. This is mainly because for me I feel it is such a cluttered and overwhelming platform. I have a sense that I don’t want to post everyday for the sake of it, if that makes sense. I share with the Groups I am on at the same time.

I look at FB for a short browse sometimes twice a day when having a cuppa. I limit myself to this or I wouldn’t get anything else done! This is when I like other’s posts that have caught my eye and follow them. There is such talent tbh sometimes I wonder if I should bother lol . As you can tell I have a routine of sorts but it is subject to change, as I need to fit in so many other things, including a gorgeous grandson. :grinning:

I work every single day on social media. I’ve just done a giveaway on Instagram and that resulted in some sales and lots of new followers.

I tend to post on Instagram and Facebook at least 3-4 times a day. Its something I’m finding needs to be constantly done for my “post reach” to stay high. I also try and Spend at least a hour a day posting adverts in Facebook groups

I post on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter and various other groups I belong to on Facebook every morning and evening and I get most of my sales from there. I just create a post and quickly post it everywhere. It doesn’t take long once you get into a routine and it’s well worth the effort. It keeps me in contact with all of my customers.

I just don’t really understand how SM works, I detest FB and no matter what I’ve done I never seem to get any more followers or interactions, Instagram I do quite like, but again I don’t fully understand it and I find it all a bit depressing.

I post once a week on Facebook and instagram, it usually works for me but not so much recently. I don’t like to post more often as I don’t really have anything to say and don’t want to spam my followers. I post on twitter and Pinterest when I post something new on here from my shop but I don’t interact on those. You can go down a rabbit hole on Pinterest so I avoid it. I probably don’t do enough but it suits me.

Totally understand what you mean about FB. I’ve been on Pinterest too for several years but tbh don’t really understand it so I don’t interact on it either. I just post my new makes on there. It seems to be awash with adverts now.

This is a real eye opener (or eye waterer!) for me. I couldn’t imagine posting more than once every couple of days on Instagram (or at the moment, every couple of months :smirk:) which is probably why Social Media has never worked for me. If you are producing several new items a week it makes sense I suppose but no sales equals no creative motivation and lower output so it’s been a bit of a downward spiral personally. I guess consistancy is the key and finding the right platform for you. I gave up on Pinterest and FB as they seemed to have no effect on visits or sales and only occasionally use Insta now. Apologies for being a Negative Nelly!

I feel the same to be honest, its demoralising but I’ve decided now, I will create my creations, I might list them for sale or I might not, I might submit for exhibitions but I might not, I’m just going with the flow now, I was getting myself in a bit of a bad state with it all so am taking a bit of a backseat, negative yes but only good for me.

Exactly. Making for the joy of it and not thinking about sales is quite liberating at the moment.

This is an interesting thread. I also feel uncomfortable with social media and I’m trying to get better. I only have twitter and Instagram, I couldn’t maintain more. I only post once a day because I want my post to mean something, even if it’s just funny.

I feel quite down about it sometimes because it seems like the bar is now exceptionally high for how your social media post has to be crafted. Instagram is particularly bad for that, I’m not sure how good it is for mental health. I certainly feel sometimes my creative output isn’t enough because you’re bombarded with others doing more, or better. My house isn’t Instagram worthy either.

I’ve bought a couple of social media courses from Domestika with my Folksy plus discount and hoping to learn from them.

Hi im new to Folksy.
I spend so much time on Facebook promoting myself as well as sprinkling as much  as i can to others . I respond in some way to every interaction i receive. It is time consuming however tjis is the age we live in x

I don’t think you are being negative at all. Its tough to get a balance between actually getting time to create and the promotion side of things. I think we all have to decide what is best for and what works for each of us personally. I haven’t even looked at Instagram because it has taken me a year to get a handle of things on FB lol. As for Pinterest, its still a mystery after several years and I mostly end up getting distracted by everything food related!!

You’re shop is really lovely. I specially love your birds. I think you’re doing well to post daily and that’s good if that works for you

I’m glad I asked this question, thanks for these great replies. It’s fascinating to hear how everyone approaches social media in a different way. It doesn’t sound like anyone actually likes it very much! But a necessity I suppose when we choose to sell on-line.

Coffee. Laptop opened. Check all the notifications on my business Facebook page where I do look at every new item and ‘like’ and some of them comment them as I go through them (who doesn’t love a ‘like’ or comment?). Then straight into Talk to read new items. All done and dusted by 10’sh. But I do check throughout the day but I have to walk away from the computer otherwise time runs away from me. I also do an Instagram read through along with checking stats on Pinterest.
