If you look at it like that @JoSara then its quite true about getting organic followers. I’m hoping that my regular customers on Facebook will still see my posts.
I hope it is. It is a bit annoying that they can’t just let you decide with the like and unlike options which pages you want to receive posts from. But they can’t just blanket limit posts from business pages to their followers. There are loads of business pages for things other than business like charities, and groups for shared interests etc., so they can’t just target business pages as a whole and make them pay to have their posts seen.
Never mind 2015 I have noticed my posts have been reaching fewer people lately so I think the changes have started (I’ve noticed that other pages who often seem to get lots of likes/comments have been receiving fewer too). Because I am winding down for Christmas I haven’t been posting any promotional posts over the last few weeks but have been posting pretty things I have found on Pinterest such as Christmas make tutorials etc and many of these seem to be quite popular so I shall try and do more of that.
I may pay to boost the occasional post - I did this recently - I made a collage of lots of my items for sale and then boosted the post (just for people who like my page and their friends) I saw a big increase in my reach and I set a budget of $5 so it didn’t cost too much. I think if we continue to use fb for advertising we will have to factor in the cost of doing so. I do seem to get a fair few sales from fb so it may be worth doing for me personally.
I use FB a lot for promotion and I hope there will be ways to do it still. I’ve tried twitter but sometimes it just seems like a long list of stuff from the same people and it’s a bit off putting - maybe I haven’t grasped it. I try to do more than just show what’s for sale on my FB page and I try to engage with other people but we’ll have to see what happens. I do get quite a few sales and a lot of people come to my Folksy shop via FB as well so I hope it won’t be as bad as some are predicting.
I did not know Instagram is owned by Facebook! I expect if they make a lot of money from this then they will follow suit! Thanks for the tip about interest lists. If we can all get these groups going that might be a good way around the advertising clamp down.
Thanks for your advice, Camilla. I sometimes do a “giveaway” on Facebook to see if people like a new design, so it looks like that will not be affected. People won’t engage with the post if they don’t like the design and if they do then the will (Phew).
I think I will be using my FB page much more like a blog from now on to show people work in progress shots and beading “how to’s” so hopefully that sort of thing won’t get caught in the trap!
I see! So if you keep abreast of current affairs, particularly the sort of topics you think your customers might be interested in, then that would be a good source of hashtags
I must say that Facebook has become a total non event as far as sales go. Pinterest and Twitter are far more use.
my reach has definitely dropped, but there’s plenty of chat and laughs on my page so i’m not overly concerned.
i usually include links to my shop, collections or specific items whether it’s work in progress or finished stuff, so i’ll just see what happens next.
i’ve never really sold through facebook though - i’ve had a few “sales” on there and found it more hassle than it’s worth to he honest - people getting upset if they missed out, then chasing up buyers, emailing and sending out invoices…
personally i much prefer the “here is my stuff and all of the relevent informations” of folksy - as both a seller and as a buyer.
I have to say, I was very confused with what to do in the run up to 2015 - I had considered opening up a tumblr blog (although getting people over to that may be harder), considering setting up instagram, pinterest etc (although I don’t understand them fully yet! and also (and still am) contemplating TSU once it’s been around a bit.
However, I decided to just keep the Facebook page to see what happened at the start of the year and go from there.
So far over the New Years period (which I thought would be dead) I have had over 20 new likers. The interaction with posts has gone down a bit but not substantial. I think I am going to persevere, with some great new initiatives ready to launch end of January
Thanks, Fallon1986! I agree-it all seemed a bit scary at the back end of 2014, but it seems that if you don’t try to spam people and they like what you post, it will still get seen. I had my most successful post of the year in early Jan so this all may have been a storm in a teacup. I don’t post very often, so that might help with people liking what you post, because I personally don’t like to be hearing from the pages I have liked every minute of the day!
