Folksy 365 - Daily Listing and Team Promotion Challenge - March 2023

Busy pricking out seedlings this morning…my sewing time goes right down at this time of year but I did manage to complete this tote with the warmer weather in mind

Afternoon, Max @MaxPringJewellery could you add a sale to the tally, please.
I know it doesn’t count towards this tally, but I’ve just sold two items over on Redbubble, but we can have a wee dance together anyway

Camilla (or someone from Folksy) put a thread up a few years ago with some good points they’d found from research supporting Freepost (you might be able to find it by searching on the forum) and detailing why it’s more attractive to buyers.

I do UK freepost on most things and I think it maybe helps reduce the number of people who abandon their basket and I get a fair number of people making additional purchases after they receive the first one, so maybe not paying postage over and over again removes a psychological barrier (or you could argue they woulld have bought together in first instance).
As you say I did just go through and adjust my prices on everything, adding it onto the price in most cases and absorbing it on others where there was room to do that or where I wanted rid (we didn’t have the sale function back then). The good thing is that when someone buys multiple items together you get a wee bonus as you can combine the postage and keep a bit more profit without it looking bad - after all it was freepost!

I did see an argument against freepost related to lower selling fees if charge postage separate - said that fees are only charged on the item, not the postage (don’t know if that’s still the case - I see that it is) but I’m not too bothered with that - more bothered with selling it in the first place
:grinning:

Should also say that it gives you more capacity to offer discounts on multiple purchases e.g. friends and family and if we ever get that functionality (though I always end up giving stuff away or doing it for cost .)

Yeah, I’m very glad. For several reasons. Everyone is so lovely, the whole folksy community really. Love coming back to this chat to see what everyone has been up to as well

I’m definitely one of those buyers attracted to free postage :joy: not sure why but I don’t like paying for postage in most instances, definitely psychological for me

Afternoon all,
Zuzana @knotsoneat, every order has emotional value - long may it last!
I am another who adds postage into costing, but I think it very much depends on how expensive your items are initially and what the postage costs are. Mine will generally go as a large letter and that’s what I add in, but if they buy more than 1 item, I need to upgrade postage due to insurance, so I don’t ‘gain’, unless they buy a lot of items - I’ll cross that bridge when it happens!
Anna @Fififoxi - that is my idea of gardening! Any chance I can borrow your OH?

I’ve ummed and ahhed over the to have P&P or not, so far I’ve kept P&P, but may rethink as I only post to U.K. now, but then as I’m having a 50% sale across the shop, to look to dwindling down stock and closing if I have to move to Cyprus sooner rather than later, it may not be worthwhile for me either?!?

Zuzana @knotsoneat I showed my daughter your little page savers and she said, oooo! So as we’re both avid readers I got two sets, lol!

My item for today, more vintage button supplies.

You’ve reminded me of the weird conundrum where sometimes it would be cheaper to send items indvidually by standard post so they are covered by the £20 insurance than it is to combine them and pay for recorded - though end up doing the latter anyway as otherwise would look weird.

Glad it arrived safely Valerie.

And thank you for your lovely comments

I guess my postage costs is a bit more tricky because with my blankets, it’s £5.55 for 1st class signed for, so I guess it might put people off if it’s that high as a postage cost, whereas maybe it’s more attractive to say free postage but including it in the cost. Then they’re not hit with that shock of £5 extra

Maybe I’m just looking for reasons or something I’m doing wrong to explain why my blankets aren’t selling on here, when there isn’t a specific reason :woman_shrugging: I’m just an over-analyser! :joy:

Can you add a sale to the tally please Max @MaxPringJewellery
We have just come back home after being evacuated earlier this afternoon. There is a rag place at the bottom of the street that caught fire and they were worried about gas canisters and chemicals exploding. There was thick black smoke and flames shooting up. Luckily the wind wasn’t blowing in our direction but you could still smell it. Fire engines from 14 different stations descended on the area. We went to my sister’s house for a while but came back a bit ago to find the engines up our end of the street as they were having to fill up with water from the main road. As our house is on the corner and our address is the main road and not the street they have let us back in. However the street are not allowed back and the local leisure centre is being used as emergency shelter. Hope the blue lights are going to be switched off as one engine is right outside our bedroom window.
