Hello
This is not something I normally do, but I would really like your help. Phoebe is one next month and I haven’t a clue what to get her for her birthday. I’d like something special, different, out of the ordinary! Am I asking too much?
Anyway, I have already decided to give her parents some specially made bunting (with Phoebe’s name on) made by myself, for the “party” which will be a BBQ on the patio (weather permitting) I thought it would look good strung across the fencing.
As for Phoebe - can you give me some ideas. Even if you don’t sell anything in your shop that would be appropriate, any ideas would be welcome. I’m not very good at buying age appropriate gifts! Perhaps you could recommend another seller on folksy? I have a modest budget, but very open to good ideas. Thank you in advance.

I always make a dodo for a first birthday. I’ve no clue what people call them here, a friend in France gave chloe one for her first and there it’s called a dodo and she still has it. My nephew will in all honesty bite if anyone tries to take his away from him, he’s a little more than 18 months old now.
Basically it’s a square or circle of jersey, as big or small as you like. You sew a running stitch circle in the middle and pull to gather it up then fill with stuffing so you have a little stuffed head in the middle of the jersey’ blanket’ body. Then you can sew a little circle of jersey on the underside if the gathering has left a hole into the stuffing and finish with an embroidered face and little jersey kitten/bunny/teddy ears. They’re lovely and soft and snuggly at night, Carter’s taken to lobbing his across the room so the body opens up when it falls … then squealing blue murder when the dog gets hold if it first:)
Edwina, little Phoebe and Ella are around the same age so I know where youre coming from, I have no clue either lol.
There are sellers who make teddies from babygros, I have seem them personalised with the babies name and either date of birth and weight, or something else personalised on them, just an idea? Or a first year book or box personalised so she can put all her little special bits and pieces in it? @dottiedesigns could help you there?
I love the idea of your bunting by the way, sounds fab!!!

That sounds like a great idea, Leanne @SeetheWoods. Do you have a photo? I can’t quite grasp it. It sounds easy to make and I have vague idea of it, but just need a little more info to fully grasp it.
Thanks so much for responding.

Thanks Colleen. I like both your ideas, so I’ll do a seach for the babygrow thing - that in itself would make a nice keepsake. I will also pop over to Dottie designs. I love her boxes and have purchased quite a few! !
Thanks so much. Hope you find something for Ella!

This is chloe’s oldest, he’s a bit tatty round the edges and everyone (except Chloe and Lily the maker) agreed that the pink eyes were a bit creepy, but hand on heart they really can be made cute:)

Aw that’s lovely @SeetheWoods Leanne, the eyes aren’t at all creepy lol.
@HandmadebyEdwina there are loads of sellers on FB, this one I found https://www.facebook.com/BabygroBabies
You’d need to see them looking at you from the corner of a dark room:D

Oh, another thing @HandmadebyEdwina I was going to get Ella was a set of crayons in the letters of her name, Dannie used to sell on here but now is on either Etsy or Not On The High Street, her shop is Colour Me Fun x I know I will have to put them by for her because she’d only eat them at the moment but still a nice keepsake
I love it! Thanks so much Leanne. Now I can’t wait to make it! I see what you mean about the pink eyes!
Thanks so much for such a great idea.

Yes, funny you should mention that. There’s a similar Facebook page where I bought two sets of crayons for my 5 year old and 3 and a half year old nephews made up of their individual names. It’s a shame they have such short first names (4 letters) so only 4 crayons! Of course, I never thought to get them with their surnames as well (doh!)
I agree that Phoebe like Ella is a wee bit too young, but it is certainly something I shall consider for later on.
Thanks again, Colleen.

Thanks again, Colleen @MidnightStarDesigns I have made enquiries. I just hope her Mum has kept Phoebe’s babygros!! Off to text her now!

Edwina I’m sure you could make a lovely set of fabric fridge magnets in her name, or even in the alphabet. You can buy special sew in magnets so little ones aren’t able to touch, pick at or chew the actual magnet, but I’ve just used the regular neodymium magnets in the past, sewn a tiny patch to the reverse of the fabric and drop the magnet in before sewing the last side of the patch closed. They’re strong little things so I buy the little ones, usually about 8mm across and 1mm deep and it holds through the fabric without any problems.

Hi Leanne
Great idea that I really like. How are you fixed for time? Could you make them for me? I’m a bit inundated at the moment. And her birthday is only two weeks away! I’m sure it would be lovely and I am happy to pay whatever it takes! Would love individual letters spelling her name “Phoebe Millie”. Please?
Fingers crossed
Edwina
Thank you Minerva. I was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to posts pics! Really appreciate it. But, I think I am almost there now. Lovely ideas.

Oh sorry Edwina, I’m all pared down for closing up on Monday and I’m spending the next couple of days between the day job and finishing up all the evil paperwork.
I’m sure someone will be able to help, Gingerbeer makes lovely fabric magnets and letter bunting, I’m sure she could easily do a name magnet
