GPSR - What we know and what we're doing to support you

I’m not sure of all the details. I only sell within the uk which now excludes Northern Ireland so haven’t looked at the details. The main thing that is stopping people from selling to EU and NI is having to have a representative within the EU to act for them.

No worries, thank you for your help. I will look into it.
thanks again, Cerys

Hi, re: jewellery, I thought it might be worth adding that hallmarks have to be applied on metals only above certain weight plus no hallmark is required at all if an item’s destination is abroad.

Did you mean the risk assessment? That’s something we all need and apparently it’s something we keep ourselves, but, we must include a safety label to our product if I’ve understood correctly??

Yes that’s what I mean, so is that something we write ourselves and post with the product.

Thanks, Cerys

Yes we write ourselves and keep somewhere safe should trading standards suchlike ever request a copy and no you don’t have to send a copy out with every order, BUT, we are supposed to have a label or something on or with our product, not sure if it has to be attached that says for example ‘keep away from naked flames’ or ‘toxic if ingested’ or small parts may be choking hazard, keep away from children’ and all the usual warnings for people who may sue us if they hurt themselves with our product. To be honest I’m so sick of all the hoops we’re supposed to jump through to merely cover my costs (if I’m lucky) that I’m seriously considering if it’s time to give up my shop :disappointed:

Thank you for the information, it’s so much to take on and a lot to process.

On behalf of myself and other sellers on this platform, can I just say a huge thank you to the Folksy team who have surpassed many trade bodies, and other market places with their helpful information and work that has been done to aid us with this difficult process.

UPDATE: You can now add safety information, compliance marks and Authorised Representative details to your listings. (You can also use the certification marks box to add information about Hallmarks, although you can’t upload any files or images.)

If your product doesn’t need any safety information, compliance marks or an Authorised Representative, you can tick the “not applicable” boxes.

The fields don’t currently have to be completed in order to sell to the UK, the US or the ‘Rest of the World’ - but in order to sell to the EU or Northern Ireland these fields will need to be completed or marked as “not applicable” on any new products listed after 13th December.

You don’t need to complete these fields for any products placed on the market before 13th December.

You can find and edit the fields on your listings page in the ‘Product Safety Information’ section. When filled in, the information will be displayed on the product page.

Please note: The Product Safety Information fields are currently only available on desktop and mobile versions of Folksy. They will be released on the Folksy Seller App very soon.

Thank you Folksy for all your help with this matter.
You have made this a safe venue to sell on.

Thank you to the whole team for the all hard work you’re doing to allow us to sell legally and to guide us through this.

I don’t intend on selling to NI or the EU but I might fill in the safety info anyway. Mine would mainly be keep away from fire and check for loose buttons.

I’m also trying to figure out if things change now with knitting patterns. Here on Folksy, we send them by email and the VAT rules so far didn’t apply to us.

But now? Do we now have to comply with the new rules, even though we still send the pattern by email on Folksy?

@Knittingtopia Like you I don’t intend to sell to NI or EU, but it seems like a good idea to include the section on safety - my pieces are not intended for food use, and though I include this info in my descriptions and on my delivery note in the parcel, it would be a good opportunity to make it visible on the shopfront. Thanks to the Folksy team for all the thought they have put into this. @folksycontent

Fantastic @folksycontent - thank you all so much for all your efforts on this. I just gave it a go on one of my play mats - very easy to update.

A minor thing about tweaking the presentation for the safety information field when Doug gets his breath back. I tried to put two unrelated items (age recommendation and allergen) on two separate lines, but they merge into one in the listing itself.

Saw more info in the discussion boards as some larger companies are going to continue into Europe but I’m not. Can’t be pfaffed with it.

@folksycontent - ignore my request. I’ve sorted the presentation by adding full stops, and reducing the capital letters so it’s clear when a new info point starts. No idea why I didn’t think of this obvious solution at the time - too carried away with the excitement of updating all my listings in one go.

And even better done to the other platforms who beat Folksy to it, without any fuss and drumrolls. They just got on and did it.
