I will be closing up in a day or so. There seems to be little interest here in small-scale artwork so I’m now all paid up with fees and departing with a small profit. I shall go back to concentrating on larger paintings and maybe do more with the online galleries.
It was worth a punt for a number of months but really there’s no mileage here for me. In addition I do not have the personal time to sit for hours pushing stuff on social media…I’d rather pay more in members’ fees plus commission and let the marketing experts promote their online galleries.
Thanks to those folk who have bought items, much appreciated. I may still dot around as a potential buyer, though, now and then, there are lovely items being made…could be “up” for some cushion covers and more teatowels sometime in the new year.
A lot of skill and talent not being found. I hope that will change in time, for you all.
Hello and sorry to hear folksy didn.t work out for you. I only joined on 30th April and have 73 sales. However I am closing my shop on 20th December due to on going health issues, so the majority of my items have been reduced (except items I know I can gift to family and friends)
Like you I will also be popping back and forth to buy some of the lovely items available on folksy.
Sorry to hear of folk leaving Folksy. I only joined earlier in the year and have only made two sales. But that is one more than on Et’y, where views and therefore sales slowed down as OOAK handmade items got more and more buried in the heap of mass produced “best sellers”. I love the “atmosphere” on Folksy. On a slightly cheeky note - when you are ready to look at cushion covers, do pop by my shops as I have several handmade patchwork ones!
Your work is lovely Christine, it’s a shame it didn’t work for you on Folksy but I wish you well for the future in whichever path you take.
good luck to you both for the future. I feel lucky as an artist to have made hundreds of sales and love it here.xx
Good luck to you Christine @smallartstuff. I’ll miss your posts, as you seem to share some of my opinions - like the social media aversion. It’s the most soul-sucking thing, I can barely make myself look at it. I’m finding that once you’ve stepped away from social media and lived without it for a while, it’s very, very hard to go back again. At least that’s how it is for me. I’ve hardly given Instagram a look for weeks (so of course I shouldn’t be surprised at having hardly any sales here). I’m pinning my hopes on craft fairs, and hoping business cards will bring people here. Best of luck with your online galleries x
I find your photos and work quite attractive. If you make more money than you spend, you could leave your shop open and do not promote it on social media if you find that tiring. Just keep it updated and in good order. It is another outlet for potential buyers to find you and you just never know who is looking!
Anyway, best of luck to you whatever you decide to do!
Really sorry to hear this - I’m always on the lookout for new work you post and wish I had a larger art buying budget
Your ACEO of Galloway Lighthouse is part of my new independent artists gallery wall in my new house, which always makes me smile when I wallk by it.
Will do! the new year isn’t far away.
Happy to know the aceo is now on your wall! and many thanks for the purchase.
Social media could have been a great thing, until the wrong people got hold of it for the wrong purposes. I avoid paying homage to it but I can understand how easily it takes over life. Hope you will continue to thrive and sell here.
