Honest opinion of new shop

Hi there,
My Folksy shop has been open around about 4 weeks but I haven’t sold anything yet. Would really value your opinions on how I can improve things, any help much appreciated

Hi Katherine,

I popped into your shop and liked a few of your beautiful pieces. Ordinarily I would look for social media links first but you seem to be set up for that, photography looks nice and clear and those are the first things I look for (as a buyer). Other’s may have things to add to this list but for me, I think it’s just a question of getting your items seen- 4 months may sound like a long time- in my eyes at least, this seems to be quite a standard, if not short amount of time, especially for a new platform. If customers don’t know about your shop, or we don’t tell them it’s moved or etc, it makes sense they won’t know about it unless you come up in a particular search.

It helps to familiarise yourself with the forum, participate in threads you find interesting- Folksy really is a very friendly, supportive group of creatives, so there is always someone on hand to bounce ideas off of and generally feel supported (not every day is a sale day- and we all know that)

I’m sure in the lead up to Christmas, exposure and sales will increase- in the meantime, there is fun to be had in the forums and connecting with like minded makers.

Wishing you lots of luck with you shop.

Hi Annie,
Thank you so much for going to all that trouble and the welcome advice😀, it’s really appreciated. Everything you said is really useful and I will act on it. Folksy has a lovely atmosphere. To be honest, even if I never sold anything I would still not regret moving across. Everyone involved is so lovely and friendly and supportive. I’ve just joined my local West Midlands folksy Facebook group and that looks fab.
Thanks again Annie,

Aw Kath,

You’re very welcome- I totally feel the same and love the supportive community!
Fab idea joining the local Folksy groups- there is also a Folksy club house on Facebook if this takes your fancy- though I must admit, I’m a bit pants at Facebook, so can’t offer any advice!

Thanks Annie, lovely👍X

Hi and welcome,
the summer has been very quiet sales wise, people aren’t sure what is going to happen with furlough ending, prices for gas going up, finally being able to go on holiday etc etc.
When you are promoting on insta remember to use tags like #folksyseller #folksyshop #newonfolksy so that people get to see our posts.
