Shop Review & Advice

Hi everyone!
I’ve been back in Folksy for a few months now and have had very little sales compared to my other platform. So I’m keen to find out why. If you have time, click on my shop link and have a root around, tell me what you think if my shop. Am I missing anything? Where can I improve? Are my items too expensive? Is my photography rubbish? What is it that’s stopping me getting sales?

All feed back appreciated, got my big girl Pants on!

Hi Ya,

You’re shop looks lovely - I’m not an expert (not having had many sales myself) but your pictures look nice. I did notice a couple of spelling mistakes in one of your listings (an extra inches symbol and a sentence that didn’t quite make sense on this one Deep Purple floral twist front stretch headband... - Folksy) Other than that I can’t think of anything major! I’m sure someone with more experience will have some better advice :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

One piece of advice I was given and is said a lot on these forums is to make sure you’re present on social media, I’ve had a looked & followed you on FB but the IG link didn’t work so you might need to check that one.

Good Luck :crossed_fingers:

Cheers Lou

Hi,

I agree with what has been said above, you have a lovely shop (again not many sales myself yet).

Your photos look good, the colour pops nicely! I also like your style of writing for your inspiration, description and about info :slightly_smiling_face:

Good luck!

Thank you both for the feedback, I’ll have a look at all the suggestions! Happy to review your pages in return if you like too. I’d be curious to know how long you’ve each been on Folksy for too.

Hi, you’re welcome! Happy for you to have a look at my shop, I’ve been on Folksy since about Sept 2019 and had a handful of sales. (I did put my shop in holiday mode for a while during lockdown as I have an 8 yr old and it took a while for us to settle into doing school work at home ) Prior to that I was on Etsy for about 5 years and found it was just too competitive for me! I love the community feel of Folksy, the lack of community was one of the reasons I left Etsy.

It can be very slow going and you do have to do a lot of self promotion via social media on Folksy but it is a lovely site and the there are so many lovely & helpful sellers here on the forums. I do join in a number of the threads here - particularly the favourite an item from the shop above and pin an item from the shop above. They are a great way of getting involved and getting to know some of the other sellers as well as helping to get your items noticed.

Good luck!

Cheers Lou

Just a couple of minor things.
First, Folksy crop our first image to square in search results and on our shop fronts - if images aren’t square or don’t have enough border then bits of the item can get chopped off and this is happening with a few of your listings. (I crop to square using picasa and then its ready to be flung onto insta as well as onto Folksy)
Your linktree still has your etsy shop at the top so I suspect that is where people will click first (top of the list and they recognise the etsy name) so try switching it to a lower position (or remove it all together) so that people have to go to your Folksy shop. Etsy shops can generate traffic on their own due to the number of people browsing the site, Folksy shops tend to require much more promotion.

No problem and you’re welcome to look at mine too. Although with format I know I already need to tweak photos like has been mentioned in another reply to this thread. Going forwards if I can I’ll use the square framing option on my phone’s camera, then they will be better suited for Folksy and social media!
I think I have been on Folksy for just under a year, I know I need to do more self promotion than I do and add more products. This year has been a struggle for me like many others. After a bit of research I think I have an idea of what may be at the root of it for me, just plucked up the courage to phone for a GP phone appointment tomorrow…feel like I’ve been putting that off for a while! Anyway, I’m hopeful to get myself sorted, be able to focus better and be more productive in the New Year. Kind of a Folksy New Year’s resolution I guess.

Emma

This is all great little tips! I’d noticed the cropping if photos, so I’ll sort these in the coming weeks once my last event is over.

We put everyone before ourselves particularly this time of year - I’ve been putting off a phone call to my GP too, need to do it before they shut for Xmas. Just not had a minute!
