Ah yes well i did that for the first time recently, I made Jack bear in his knitted overalls and couldn’t decide whether to photograph with or without my wheelbarrow which is my own and not for sale. The photos were really good and he sold straight away but I did have to make sure I added that the props were not for sale. One of my regular customers did ask about buying him and the props but I said no, I am not certain I will add anything similar again, it wasn’t hand made but I still think it may be misleading so I will stick with flowers or a book in future

Cheers for that Debby and I will keep my Happy Dance close by, just in case

I was wondering about that because every time i look it up i see the same things or type of things alll the time . I dont do many things as they are hand woven naturely dyed and spun and my cards are mounted on hand nade paper too . I omagine i must get better at photography too .at least they are all hand made but not possible to put loads on at one time . They would fit into a hand made by one person except the backing card which is of course sustainable.

While your items are lovely, I think you will need more and better photos to catch the eye of the Folksy Favourites team. You currently only have 3 items in your shop as well, so the team may not have come across your items in the mass of lovely things on the site. I’d recommend you review and enhance your listing titles and text so that you are more likely to be found - you have a listing titled ‘sheep’ - if I’m searching for a greetings card that is just not going to pop up in my search unless you put those words in the title. Your descriptions could be much longer and be properly spelled  You are not making the best use of your tags.

There is plenty of good advice on creating eyecatching photos and writing great listings on the Folksy Blog : https://blog.folksy.com/ - and the Seller Handbook How to sell craft - a Folksy seller's handbook | Folksy Blog

Hi Mary,
I had a look and have to agree with Helen, your listings need some work.
Firstly your titles don’t tell us what the item is, unfortunately having a heading called ‘woodland walk’ or ‘sheep’ is probably not going to show up in searches by the Folksy team or by customers.
You need to say what the item is so if it’s a card make sure you have greetings card or blank card etc in the title, ‘hand woven sheep greetings card’ or whatever describes what the item is.
There are a lot of spelling mistakes in the listings and in your about sentence, I always read mine back before listing to check for any errors, also if possibie you need to add more information.
Your photos are not the best. Folksy look for quality photos when choosing which items to show in their favourites. The woven panel photo is too cluttered and doesn’t show the item off and you need to use as many photos as possible, perhaps one hung on a wall, another of a close up of your work, one of the back of your work etc, try photographing on a plain background.
I also noticed you only had one or two tags on the item, again use as many as possible, e.g for the card you could add, greetings card, blank card
Birthday card, hand woven sheep card, wool etc etc
The chances of your items being found by customers at the minute are slim, as Helen has already mentioned there’s a lot of info on the blog to help. When you joined Folksy you should have received a number of emails from them with guidance on how to set up your shop, each email is to help with a different area i,e, listings, photography etc and they talk you through each step. If you havn’t read them I would recommend you do and if you havn’t seen them in your inbox check your spam folder. Otherwise email Folksy admin and I am sure they will resend them to you. I have been on folksy since 2018 and last year changed my email address and these came through over the first few days of changing, I read/worked through them all just to make sure I wasn’t missing anything, they were so helpful for a new seller.
Good luck with your shop.

Thankyou for your help . Im new to my mkbike phone and have just about managed my i pad typingbwhich often doesnt printvwhat i meant to say . I agree with trying to get better photos , however my main problem seemsvto be getting the colours and materials to print what i try to put inn. They keep on sending Ă vlong list of things to choose from . Non of them what i need and it refuses any thing else . It reminds me of college when i handed in all my notes in a pile and was given a lower mark because it wasnt properly packaged . The next time i handed in a very smart new folder with three titles in and no notes and got a higher mark . I then showed the tuters this and they admitted that the presentation meant more than the content .i think ill have to think of the presentation again .

Re colours and materials.. type in what you actually want and press Return. You dont have to pick from the lists.

I think theres an article on the folksy blog about what theyre looking for, when choosing featured artists and for their gift guides, etc.

It’s not just new shops Joy, I’ve got something in there and I’m definitely an oldie!

My response was sept 23 and was relevant then

 I’ve clearly got some catching up to do!

Ive tried typing in my colours and it wouldnt sray until i tyed in one from the list and then it wouldnt let me type in the wool i used either ..its a bit fierce about what i put in .today i ve got my card in weaving for weavings sake and have some likes but nowhere on the new items or somewhere way down the middle or back somewhere in the shops list . I thi k there a problem in having a few peoples entire collection on at a time so i get bored and go back to making things it might be better if people had their shops and had a display window of a few things and then people could then look up there shop to see every thing . I jusrt cant spend the time looking back for things i might have liked as they disappear into the mists of time .

Sorry, just tried it again … type the colour you really want then press comma. Try that… I know … not at all obvious…

I think there is little one can do to get into Favourites except ensure our photos are to a good cleanline standard. We have to remember that the Folksy team as they keep telling us is very small and it is only the Folksy team who add to the Favourites so if your type of work is the sort of work they like then you have a chance. If not then no. There can be little doubt they prefer more neutral colours, pastels, beiges and really don’t like Rainbows and very bright coloured things. I have things in there very occasionally but they very rarely select the things which my customers find popular / buy.
I was puzzled to find three scrunchies in there the other day, all different shops. Having never ever bought or worn a scrunchie and can’t actually think I’ve ever seen anyone wearing one I was surprised by that but everyone to their own taste

Well ll just have to leave it for now .ive been throiugh the whole of folksy southeastern and now appear to be no where as far as i can see .

Hi @WeaveDyeSpin what do you mean by having gone through all Folksy south eastern ? Do you mean in the Gift guides, if so they are like the favourites and chosen by Folksy admin so again you need good photographs, or do you mean if you click on that area from your shop header ? If you have added your town, county etc to your account you should show with all the other shops from the same area.
I will have a look for you …

I just clicked on East Sussex from your shop header and you appeared on the first page so were you looking in the gift guides perhaps.
Are you in the process of editing your listings as you don’t appear to have any tags at all in the ‘cat’ listing, I don’t know if they were there before or not as it was your other two I looked at earlier.

No all the pages of the 208 in all

How odd ive clicked on it and now its there thats a relief i put it on southeastern before andi think they may have just showed their favorites but lots and lots of the same makers . . Probably thats whybi yhoughtbit was the main list . Thsnk you for all your help .

I dont understand what you mean by “put it on southeastern”. At the very bottom of the Folksy front page there are different areas listed. If you click on “south east” and the on “east susssex”, your shop is listed. You dont have to " put it on" anything. If you give your location when you set it up, it will automatically be listed there. There are no favourites or Folksy picks, it is just a straightforward directory of shops by area.

That is different to the Gift guides, where Folksy chooses items to show on the front page under the different topics.

When it comes to the Themes of the Day section, if you use the appropiate tag ( they are listed on your Dashboard) then your item will be featured, all items come up at random.

I can only agree with others that you would be wise to check your spelling, punctuation etc, make sure titles say what the item actually is, and use all the tags.

Hope you will soon be celebrating some sales
