How successful have you been on Folksy?

Great shop Joy…so many talented people on here, it’s great to see. I’m still finding my feet…I’m one of those people who has a head full of ideas and not enough hours in the day lol…I’m sticking to my jewellery and custom canvas work and I’ll see how things go. :+1:

I’m glad that you’re doing so well…I haven’t got enough things in my shop yet to worry about high fees lol…hopefully this time next year I’ll be able to do some craft fairs.

Thank you x

Thank you!

I’ve been on Folksy for almost a year, and sales have generally gone very well. After a steady start and a quiet summer there’s been a big upsurge in sales since August, and I’ve just passed 100 sales! I’ve found the marketing tips to be very helpful, and definitley worth reading. Good social media gets you noticed and widens your profile, so worth making an effort on it. A wee bit of Facebook advertising has also worked well for me. Good luck!

been on here since May 2010 - Initially with my Audreyscat shop and then since Feb 2014 I switched to WittyDawn ( sadly no change name facility on here so had to relaunch ) . Sales have been:

AudreysCat - 319 over about 44 months

WittyDawn - 87 over about 38 months

In total - 406 over about 5.5 yrs ( and 202 on E*** ) plus direct/fair sales etc.

You can see that Audreyscat years were way more busy that WittyDawn. In reality things have been dipping here since 2012 for me. Various issues - tags were removed for a few yrs (never understood why) , a huge ‘is it handmade or not’, debacle a few yrs ago caused issues and lots of shops leaving, that ‘button’ debate ( which came close to making me leave) etc. ( however to be fair this year and last year in particular I have been busy settling a new rescue dog and with house projects - the dip in sales is impacted by my own efforts or lack !)

HOWEVER - I think the site is significantly improved over the last few years, the reintroduced tagging and now even more functionality around tags is a huge step forward , barring any major missteps between now an Xmas ( and there has been a bit of a tradition there I am afraid - old timers you know what I mean ). I am more hopeful about Folksy than I have been for a few years. I also think that Folksy itself is becoming more visible on social media.

For now I am staying

I am also new to Folksy. No sales yet either but in the new year I will try a bit harder and hopefully get a sale. I am not good at this on line stuff it takes so long. But you know what they say if at first you don’t succeed try again. I chose Folksy because I am a Yorkshire lass but now live in the new forest.

Hi everyone,
I’m also new, and I’ve been reading a few of the replies.
I was actually given some advice from my wife who is a operations manager.of her own company to try something like folksy. I’ve literally just started on folksy selling what I make. I’ll be honest since starting creating items, I’ve sold quite a few on local selling pages. But, I like the look of folksy and I just hope it’s worth it. I do feel sometimes that with sites like this some makers and products get lost in the mix of well established high selling sellers and products…my fingers are crossed.

Hi there I’ve just joined have your sales improved?

Only been here a few months, had the odd sale but nothing steady. But any marketplace is slow to start, I’m getting involved with the forums as a way to get noticed a bit more and network with others.

@phoenixparacord Your ‘about me’ section photo is one of the best I’ve seen for a while! :+1:

Only just joined, looking at it as an additional sales site as I have a website plus have just been accepted for Yumbles.
Not sure how much demand there is on here for food, but will give it a go.

I hope your shop gets you additional sales @wickedfudge - your fudge looks delicious!

I have recently started using Folksy again after a long absence. Hopefully I have learnt from past mistakes but Folksy has been relatively kind to me in the past. My recent sales have been custom orders. I find Folksy a convenient place for these transactions giving buyers and myself some assurance.

The forum talk is a great place to start and to get noticed. Sellers here are generous with their own positive experiences and freely give tips and advice.

One step I shall be taking is to review my listings especially photography and tags. Dont be afraid to go back and take fresh photos or edit existing ones. Tags can be key so as Folksy suggest think of what buyers search for.

Sales can be slow or feel non existent. More so if you keep refreshing the screen! List on Folksy, look in ‘Talk’ then walk away and create new and wonderous things that buyers will love.

Always keep creating!

That is very good advice! I need to spend more time making and less time online.

Its a balancing act really. I found, as many others do that I was looking at my stats far to regularly to be meaningful.

If I get a sale I am pinged by email so that’s a good prompt. I look at stats in the morning for the previous days views then just get on with things. I have some in store housekeeping to do but other work commitments mean I’ll do that on Saturday morning then I have a list pf projects to work on.

That’s just me by way of example.

More successful sellers could give you better tips on maintaining your impetus and growing your sales!

Hello all… I joined in mid Jan this year and have just had my first sale and a commission. I’m over the moon because I make art work that I like and I know it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. I’m also loving the learning processes involved in setting up, maintaining and promoting my shop. I’m always tweaking bits and bobs… still not there yet but I don’t think there is an end point. So I’m taking each day as it comes and feel blessed for each lesson learned. Best wishes to all creatives.
