Not sure if this is the place for this, but has anyone else seen that Etsy sellers are striking in protest at 30% fees increase? They re closing their shops for 7 days and have a petition. Interesting.

Yeah I saw that the other day and posted it on the thread about the fee rise. It’s had a bit of coverage in the press as well I think and it’s interesting that Etsy have now introduced those other ‘badges’ not just the star seller one as that program is definitely one of the areas that lots are unhappy about. Always good to see people standing up for themselves.

I think the only people who will loose out are those who stike and potentially loose sales. Etsy won’t take any notice.

Yes, Kirsteen @StitchStudio posted on Folksy Clubhouse about it with a suggestion that during the strike we all post how great Folksy is. It could be a great opportunity for us to let everyone know about Folksy, I will be joining in as much as I can.

Yes I commented that I left Etsy ages ago and promoted Folksy

Do you think a lot of their sellers are coming here? There seems to be a lot of new shops lately. Would be nice if their customers follow!

That would be good.

I think Etsy shops should protest if they’re not happy but basically if a boycott is publicised on social media its giving Etsy more publicity. I’m not going to say anything on social media about Etsy but I’m going to post throughout the week about Folksy, what I love about it - seller and buyer perspective. If as many people as possible do it, it might work out well

I’d rather the buyers boycotted it and bought here instead! I’m not really bothered about their sellers…

Yes I agree, I think next week is a great time for us to shout loud and proud about Folksy!

Yes, I was surprised when I heard about it. Unfortunately we are all doing what we are doing to make money, every Et*y. It’s not the best time to increase costs, but then there never will be. It’s always the people at the bottom of the ladder that are hardest affected with things like this. Life is tough at the moment.

@plumporridge I agree, it is such a shame Folksy doesn’t get more coverage. It deserves so much more.

I think a lot of Etsy sellers who are ‘craftsmen/artists’ (like me) are discovering Folksy with a sense of relief. Etsy has really abandoned the ‘quality handmade craftsman’ ethos in favor of ‘volume sellers’ so although I have retained my Etsy shop for the moment all my efforts will be towards building my Folksy shop. I have only been on Folksy a couple of months and It is lovely to find a friendly positive community with real integrity - I will be doing my best to promote Folksy in every way. It’s just a shame that many proper crafters and artists selling on Etsy just don’t know much about Folksy.

It’s not only that, I have a shop on both sides and etsy sales far outweigh the sales here so, as much as I hate it, I have to stay there if I want sales. Even when all my promotion leads here and nothing for etsy I do better there. Folksy needs to get itself more known in general, not just amongst sellers.

Couldn’t afford to not have my Etsy shop open, Sales on Etsy since February 167, Sales on Folksy since February 0.

Me too. No sales on Folksy since end of January but 10 on Etsy, plus some private commissions. I do prefer being on Folksy, it has a nicer vibe, but can be very disappointing at times.

As I have lost my sight, I am not able to read much neweps. The only thing I have been aware of is that they seem to be promoting sales more strongly than folksy but this opinion may be a mistaken one,
If they are giving more promotion this could be a reason for them increasing fees! Just a thought!
