I would buy some underglaze colours that I’ve wanted for a long time and maybe stock up on some clay. I would also look at investing in stocking my work on maybe one more selling platform.
I know that £500 doesn’t really go far these days!
I was going to replace my gazebo this summer - yes that’s how much a professional one costs! Instead I’ve decided to rent from the fair organiser. It’s more expensive in the long run, but easier on the cash-flow. Also I don’t have to put it up and take it down
A soft box lighting rig for year round properly lit photo taking but since I haven’t got space for it (and £500 doesn’t buy me the end of next doors garden and put a new work shed on it) I’ve got my eye on some fordite on eBay - £500 might cover it.
A new sewing machine that I’ve had my eye on for a while now. That would take £400-and-a-bit. The rest I would spend on fabric (because that’s what I do!! )
A proper polisher (I keep having to take my jewellery mops to work and using the one there - the benefit of teaching D&T) and I’d love a small rolling mill too
Some lovely marketing material, a rivet press and fabric. There are so many fabulous types of material on the market I just can’t afford to try at the moment.
OOO happy dream! Register my hallmark and get some pieces hallmarked. Get the workman in to finish my workroom, some boxes I can’t move need putting in the loft and racking installing, which would mean I can have my lounge back. Finally buying some more gift boxes, sterling chain and wire.
I thought that I would revive this thread as I have been daydreaming about having some investment over the last Month!
At this moment in time, I would like to pay an electrician to wire in my pugmill (that I have had sitting there doing nothing since February!) - this would mean that I could easily reclaim the tens of bags of broken bits of clay and I could save money having to buy more stock! I also need some more glaze materials desperately, so I would buy those too.
@thedotterypotter that is an interesting name ‘pugmill’ I would have my floor redone in my studio, I laid a light vinly floor when I moved in as that is all I could afford, it is wearing down and tearing in places, so I would love to lay a gorgeous wooden floor.
A bigger saw for slabbing stuff (electric with air extraction to keep dust down please) and space to put it. I think I might have gone a bit over budget.
Ooh so many things! Tools - some kind of polishing tool / machine so I don’t keep polishing my fingertips, or a blow torch (& training to use it!). Or just general jewellery making courses as I do feel like I’m making it up as I go along! Or looking again at registering for hallmarking & working in silver. Or improvements to my ‘workshop’ (back bedroom!) such as a decent desk & chair so I don’t keep ruining my back. Oh it’s nice to dream…
@SashaGarrett actually an extractor fan would be a great thing for me too, and a better hoover! and @OrukiDesign a small enamelling kiln as I have been thinking of enamelling silver for a while… to go with my glass … too many things…
I’d consider actually spending some on marketing because it’s not something I normally do (well obviously I do what I can for free, but it’s not something I like to spend money on).
Oooh, or a nice new printer that works with thicker card than my current one does.
