My school is having a few problems with their sharp knives in Cookery. We need to find a way to permanently mark each knife, so that we can assign to a pupil at the start of a lesson. These are of course steel. We’ve already tried:
Sharpies - came off in dish washer
Nail varnish
Metal stamping - they were too hard
Various paints
The form of marking needs to be hygienic and survive high temperatures of hand or dish washing. Any suggestions ladies and gentlemen?
You can acid etch steel - probably need to use nitric acid for stainless steel. What are the handles made from? Could you engrave into the handles rather than etching the blades?
The handles are steel too, the whole knife is one solid piece, we have been trying to put something on the handle. Will pass on the etching tip thanks. Enamel paint is the latest thing they are trying, model paint. A dremel is a last resort to engrave them is a last resort, the acting head of Technology is a trained silversmith and metalworker. The hygiene aspect is not her speciality.
