My sales are slow - What am I doing wrong?

Susannah,

Thank you so much for taking the time to send me such a comprehensive reply. It is much appreciated. I think what I am learning is that there is no simple formula to successful sales. It takes a lot of perseverence and hard work. I love being an artist. I don’t work, this is it for me! so it would be nice to make somes sales to keep me going but I will keep going and experimenting. I love your work Susannah. Your prints are beautiful.

I wish you continued success and once again thanks for your reply.

thank you Brenda. I love my work being described as “different”. It is a huge compliment to me as I do not want my work to fit into any particular genre. I do realize however, that this means my work is an acquired taste!!! I just have to be true to myself though and do what I love otherewise I just couldn’t function as an artist.

I will join the forums. Thanks for your reply and for your tips…much appreciated.

Sally,

Thank you so much. I love my work to be described as “off the wall” “unconventional” and “different”. It is a huge compliment to me as I do not want to fit into any particular genre. I do whatever I love and so I know that will take more time and perseverence as I guess my work is like “marmite” love it or hate it.

It really helps when I am encouraged to be myself with my art so thank you so much. I’m pleased that you “get” what I am doing.

Good luck to you too.

Thank you Judith.
Yeah- I think it’s definitely a case of experimenting and playing around with things to see what works for you. And what works for one person doesn’t work for everyone else. Things like finding out who your audience is- I have sold just as many prints to people who live by the sea as to people who live very centrally inland- and I guess for those people it must be a case of them loving the seaside, or having fond memories. But, I also find regardless of knowing my audience I also just create what I enjoy and what I feel comfortable making- it’s very much my style! Even in the past when I’ve tried to do something different I’ve ended up somehow reverting back- and I guess this is something that people become familiar with too. I’ve also found my prints (or most of them) seem to be gender neutral and have been bought by or for just as many men as women- which I guess also helps in terms of sales. But then I’m not a girly person so again it’s just my style.

I think it’s fun finding all these things out and almost stopping every now and then to analyse and therefore decide on useful places to sell to be spotted. I’d definitely find somewhere maybe a bit different to sell your originals though- if you don’t already.

Good luck with everything! I hope that one day I can just have this as my job as well!

Sorry please may I ask why some of your art is not in the “art” department? maybe you would get more views if it were - or am I being thick and its in the right place

I think you are right…Some of my early was put into the wrong category. Thanks for pointing it out…I will now go over my l8st and sort.
