New style shipping and delivery box showing on listing

The lead time info has been added back in, Clare @clareknitware. Folksy admin said it was a glitch, and it seems to have been corrected.

Although it happened at the same time as displaying the postal costs to the countries, I don’t think it’s directly related so it shouldn’t disappear again.

EDITED as Kim from Folksy has now clarified there were no changes to the way postal charges works.

Thanks for that information, what a relief, I was wondering what ever I was going to do. All well.

@Bearlescent This is how shipping on Folksy works. The changes last week have just been to clarify things, rather than make any changes to how it works (although we understand it’s an issue for a lot of sellers and there may be changes relating to that to come, but it’ll take more development time).

As it is now (and as it always has been) ‘rest of the world’ includes all countries that haven’t already been specified. This means if you don’t fill in a price for Europe and US, they’re included in ‘rest of the world’. Although before last week you might not have had a price specifically displaying for Europe, because you had a rest of the world price, a buyer in Europe would still have been able to buy from you. (Previously if you didn’t have a price specified, that area wouldn’t have shown on your listing page, so someone coming to Folksy for the first time would just see ‘UK’ and ‘rest of the world’ and would have had no reason to assume that didn’t include Europe or US - it’s only those that are already very familiar with Folksy that would assume that).

This means if you have a flat fee for international, you don’t have to type in the price 3 times, but can just use the ‘rest of the world’ box to cover them all. When the shipping was first set up, this was a useful time saver, but as regulations have changed over the years, sellers are now more likely to want to exclude certain countries, so it’s no longer as handy as it once was and has become a problem instead. We are aware of this, but changes to how the shipping works is going to take more time.

Thanks Kim, I’d never clocked that was how it was supposed to work! Good to hear that improvements are on the way, there are many sellers now who need to exclude EU (and NI) but who wish to carry on selling to the US and/or the rest of the world. I no longer sell to the EU but was considering opening back up to US customers so it was actually useful to find out that this isn’t currently a possibility - I’ll hang fire until it’s fixed!

@LooneySpoons You can put in a price for US without it including Europe, it’s just if you enter a price for rest of the world that it’ll include everywhere else if they’re not already specified.

Thank you Kim, I understand how it works and knew i would have to cancel any sales to EU but just didn’t know why there were changes made that now seem to stipulate to buyers that we post to the EU and charge X amount.
Nothing has actually changed really then but it did for a short time because I remember seeing in my shop ‘doesn’t deliver to EU’ and got very excited that it had been done, then shortly afterwards changed from doesn’t deliver’ to £23 hence why I asked the question.

@Bearlescent That was just an error in the text, if anyone from the EU had tried buying from you then, it would still have worked for them even though the message said it wouldn’t deliver there. It also meant for those that hadn’t specifically put in a US price because it was the same as their rest of the world price, it was then incorrectly showing items didn’t deliver to the US when they did.

OK, thank you! So I don’t have a problem until I decide to sell to Australia…

I have listed quite a few items over the last couple of weeks and don’t have the new style shipping boxes…yet…

These ?

Ah …ok thank you Kim, I understand now

I thought that WAS how it worked that because there is a EU box that if you left it blank because you don’t ship there then those countries arent included in the ROW box.

I’ve learned something that I wasn’t aware of and just changed the delivery on 128 items, some using the bulk edit listing to change the postage but plenty that have individual shipping costs due to weight and value.

So, having now had to remove the ROW shipping cost to remove EU it means potential customers in Australia and Canada have been cut out too as there are no boxes for them.

I think a lot of us thought that. I deleted all except UK and added some of my items that are more popular in the US back onto E…y. Shame and annoyed that now means my reach for selling has dropped to an island.

Hi @folksycontent @kimfolksy postage costs to Europe are showing on the postage box again, I left Europe off my postage settings. Please can it go back to saying doesn’t deliver here where we have left certain postage settings blank? xx

@MoreTeaVicarKnitwear You have a postage cost set for rest of the world, so if you don’t put in a specific price for Europe, this is covered by rest of the world. As explained above, this is how our postage has always worked, but we’ve just made some changes to clarify it.
We will be looking into changing how it works so it’s possible to ship to the rest of the world and exclude EU, but this will take more development time.

Hi Kim, thanks, I understand that, however, yesterday or the day before where it says Europe in the box it said doesn’t deliver here, now it has the postage cost in it, even though I left that blank.

As mentioned above that was just an error and caused issues for other sellers that were then wrongly showing they didn’t deliver to the US, when it had just been left blank because it was the same price as rest of the world.

Ok, thanks. It’s a pain though, so I hope something can be done about it sooner rather than later as I really don’t want it to visually show that I post to Europe when I don’t, even though I know they can still buy through the rest of the world postage cost, as we’d then have to go through the faff of emailing the customer to explain and then emailing support to cancel the order and then refund. I could put something in the announcement part, but that no longer shows on each listing unless the potential customer clicks on the drop down, which they may or may not do.

I wonder if easiest way to stop unwanted EU orders and to make it clear to EU customer would be to set the EU postage but to something ridiculous… ??

That’s what I’ve done Joy, because I want to be able to sell to Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc. You can only put postage at £150 at it’s highest. I just hope it puts European buyers off! I would refund if I did get an order. I’ve also put a message saying I don’t ship to the EU but people might not see that.
