Newbie! Feedback welcome!

Hi Susan, welcome to Folksy, your shop looks lovely with pretty items. There are several helpful articles on the Folksy site including writing effective product titles and adding tags to every listing, keep an eye on ‘themes for the day’ add the correct tag on appropriate products to get seen on the the theme of the day page. There is one listing you have which could be confusing to any potential customer, the lemon marble trinket dish is listed as a candle holder, however in the description it states trinket dish. If it can be used as either then I would make that clear in both the title and the description. Best of luck with your shop.

Hello and welcome. Great photo of you both and lovely to see sisters working together as a team. Can you state on your listing what your items are made from…looks like Jesmonite or similar. Very pretty and good luck with your shop.

Hello to you both and welcome to Folksy
I know your potential customers will know what a sage holder is for, but I have no idea. Perhaps you could add something in the description for numpties like me.
Good luck with your shop

Hello and welcome to you both! Had a quick look at your shop, you have some lovely items, maybe add a banner at the top of your shop page as that’s another place to showcase your work. I clicked on the hexagonal coasters as they caught my eye, and was a bit confused as to whether you’re actually selling TWO complete sets of coasters in this single listing? It’s always worth putting in writing exactly what the buyer will receive (especially if you use props in your photos). If you want to offer a choice of colours you can add variations after you’ve listed the item, just shout if you need help as to how to do this  Also your dimensions are in inches, it’s worth adding centimetres as well, younger folks (except in the US) have NO idea how big an inch is. Anyway good luck with your shop and I hope you enjoy being on Folksy!

Hi thanks for your reply. Yes ill certainly do that.

Hi thanks for your reply. Yes ill certainly put some info re the sage stick. Im also waiting for stock so i can update pics.

Sage is used to putify and cleanse. They are also known as smudge sticks! It creates a calming ritual that helps to release the stagnant enerygy.

Hi yes ill add in mm’s.

I understand re the coasters so ill sort that. Ive no idea re the variations. Could i take you up on your offer of help?

Thank you

Hi :heavy_heart_exclamation:

You can use variations to give customers a choice of colour from within one listing (there are also text options to allow for personalisation). You always need to create the complete listing first and list the item. If you then go to the listing you’ll see the option to edit it and also a bit that says ‘add or edit variations’ - I’ve circled it on one of my things here

Click on that and it’ll open a window where you can add your variations - this listing has a choice of 2 colours so I’ve used the ‘drop-down’ variation option and added the colours.

Then you can save your changes (it’ll show you a green button to do that) and go back to your item. There should then be a big orange ‘choose options’ button that your customer will also see. If you click on it you can check that your variations are showing correctly! Hope that helps :slightly_smiling_face:

Ok ive added colour variations and saved.

Hi I think the shop looks good and you’ve had a sale! That’s great and positive as sometimes it can take quite a while to make your first order. I would improve on photos and add more. Yours are lifestlye products so I would take several photos per listing use up the 10 you’re allowed (I think it’s 10) take photos at different angles and how the items could be used so a candle holder placed in a nice setting with a candle burning inside it for example.

Congratulations on your first sale Sue and Carol, and well done on all the work you have done on the shop. You have been busy :grinning:

I just had a quick look at the one you shared today on the daily challenge, Hexagon Coasters and Holder - Folksy

The title and description are looking good and you have some good key words sprinkled throughout - great on google as well as in Folksy - and there are some great tags and you have put them in the right category (luckily you don’t have to use the catch all “everything else”(.

However, we all know how hard it is to be found even when our listings are tightly written. I had a quick look for "coaster", but can’t see you in the first few pages yet. I’ll try again when the system resets and search rotates. But coasters are a bit of a saturated field on Folksy, and the sheer number of them for sale means you won’t often appear towards the top of a generic search so you need to think about more specific searches as well.

I did find you on the first page for "hexagon coaster", but not in the possibly more common searches like “coaster set” or “drinks coaster”. Although those words are in your description they are not in title or tags which take precedent in search, so maybe add them in.

And try describing how this would make a great a gift purchase, and add tags like housewarming/new home/special celebration/wedding etc. And explain that they are made from resin - in case people are searching for that, as well as telling other customers what Jesminite is.

Keep focusing on good listings with good images, so they have a chance of being picked up for one of the Folksy favourites, or gift guides, and hit the front page. And add the tag “pastel colours” as that’s a Theme of the day later this month.

I agree with Binny, try and do more photos from different angles. This listing has nice clear pictures - and the main image sits nicely in the square photo crop so that really looks better than taller ones that are cut off. Maybe have some sideways on so we see the height of the holder better, and also one from underneath the coasters. And maybe a close up really showing the texture of the material, and one with a glass or mug nearby, and another with one on top. Props are good, as long as your first photo is clear what you are selling.

I’ve been looking at Folksy’s advice on taking photos recently, so my advice comes from there, not from my own (lack of) expertise… I will be trying to improve my own again as soon as I’ve sorted a light box out (I have terrible light in my house).

On that note, I’m finding this reviewing your shop very helpful in respect of my own. As I look and comment on your items, I think - “I do that too” Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to put up a few of my listings for advice.

Some of your photos have a grey cast, so perhaps find a way to ensure you use a bright enough light, or alter the photos slightly to brighten them up a little?

Yes agree! We’ve got a light box now so that should help. Thanks.
