Odd balls! Yarn questions

Hello all…
Im hoping some of the wonderful knitters/crocheters here might be able to help with this, is there such a place as a yarn swap shop? Somewhere I could deposit my odd balls to swap for a ball of something I’m short of? Ive scoured the internet as far as I can and can’t find anything??
If no such place exists what on earth do I do with the bits I don’t need? Can anyone recommend some good stash busting patterns? Would anyone be interested in buying part used balls? For crafts or what not? Or am I just better off dropping them at one of the many local charity shops? Having said that they seem to be getting very choosy about what they want these days.
Anyway, thanks in advance, id be really grateful for any suggestions…x

There’s a facebook group called Yarn destash uk, or something like that but people sell on there.

I don’t do them myself, but if you cannot resell them, granny squares are supposed to be ideal for left overs x

There is no reason why you can’t list them on here! Lots of people de-stash on Folksy.

Definitely put them on here!

After many, many years of crochet and knitting I cannot begin to tell you have many odd balls of yarn I had…( obscene)…our carpet was wearing out and so rather than the expense and upheaval of a new one…this is what we did…
.

and another view as we also covered a small settee…

I made a lot of spare squares in blocks of 12 so that we can lift sections to hoover and wash them and put them back

I have 6 enormous tubs of wool and most are odd balls as i just buy one for a bear cardigan, hat etc. I gave away a couple of bin liners full a few years ago to a church group in a neighbouring village but need another clear out now as I could never use it all. I went through mine last week with a view to downsizing the stash but only managed to get rid of half a carrier bag full  why are crafts so hard to part with.
I have thought of putting them on folksy but I think the postage would be more than the ball of wool so not worth it unless I do odd ball packs òf 4 or 6 perhaps.
Wow Brenda @teabreaks that must have taken forever, how wonderful.

I agree Debby @Bearlescent …I thought of selling my oddments but the postage would make it more than the cost of buying a brand new ball of yarn…so squares it is…I still have loads to use up and I have knitted a load of hats at low prices in my folksy shop…but it will still take me until I am 100 to use it all…lol…

Wow! Brenda that’s one fabulous carpet…love the idea of making blocks so you can lift and wash too! Ive not got enough for a full carpet yet, I could make a rug I guess, can’t crochet though so would have to be knitted. :grinning:

I honestly don’t have a problem with most craft supplies, happy to send them on to a new home if they’re going to be useful to someone, ask me about paint or wooden panels or quality paper though…

I can’t really crochet well so granny squares are out, although I suppose I could set about practising with my odd balls, just need to find the time… :grinning:

I have found there are quite a few destash markets popping up now, you could always use as some stuffing or a granny square throw/scarf/blanket

The amigurumi creatures might make use of odds and ends of yarn if you crochet.

I’ve been using leftover yarn on a scrappy blanket, and if there’s really odd bits I don’t want they usually get taken on Freecyle, always someone who wants to start or practice knitting or crochet. I think charity shops might take it too.
