Instead of ‘No Buy’ decided to do a ‘Shop your stash’ month.
As crafters we all have loads of stock! I for one know I do not know what I have. Take March ordered some thermolan, okay fine, when it arrived (2 packages) had ordered twice, not a problem can put in stock. However, when went to put away already had an uncut length. Get my drift, lol.
I am decluttering my craft room in May, labelling drawers etc and listing things not used now on Folksy supplies.
The second part of the challenge is we are allowed to buy from other Folksy sellers as that is not buying exactly but redistribution.
I’m not sure if I feel guilty and/or relieved … my fabric stash takes up a whole large cupboard - perhaps I should list remnants and fat quarters on craft supplies?
Well done Ladies. As crafters we all have so much and sometimes needs sorting.i am taking it slow a shelf, drawer etc at a time. Should be done by the end of May.
Dear agony aunts…I have a room full ! Floor to ceiling cupboards along one wall, a double ottoman bed full, drawers and still have tubs and tubs of wool in the loft and 3 large tubs of other craft bits up there. I also buy my stuffing 10kg at a time, it has to be hand balled into the loft then hubs goes and fills a binliner at a time for me. My stash is obsessive but some of my things I Ibought well before the days of Bearlescent but I need help because I struggle to part with even one single thread. Also my packaging boxes, in 4 sizes, we bring a few down at a time and they are also flat packed in the loft, I also buy those in bulk. This is the reason why retiring is so hard because I don’t know what i would do with it all. I also have my desk with drawers and tubs underneath and decorative storage. Help !! It is all very tidy, boxed up and labelled, quite OCD. When i am feeling more energetic i will take some photos. I can’t be the only one … but I have taken the first steps and not bought anything for a while and whilst in Whitby I intentionally avoided the wool/sewing shop even though I walked past it every day so I think that counts as making a start.
You are starting well Debby. I have learned over recent years that to let go is so freeing. Since I reduced my stick from over 1000 to 400.then first time in years feel good. I now know I do not have to create everyday. I am allowed to do other things. Plus has focused my mind to create what I love.
This morning showcased a relist and did a slideshow for some of my wedding collection, I am more determined than ever to promote what I have and make in moderation and when I feel like it.
Tomorrow taking a look at my books as half never opened, they will go for sale. Most craft related so can be listed on F.
Oh yes - have SO MANY books - most have only been opened once, some were gifts and have never been opened! So in ‘giftable’ condition! And ‘stuff’ generally - need to sort, photograph and list - or could just list books as their content can be found online easily enough!
And oh yes, quite likely to buy more in to replace what goes out!!
Ok, so I failed today. I managed to sell a lot of my stash at a local destash event, but I did come home with a few items from the donated craft supplies table. To be fair, it was an event to raise money for a great charity, and the organisers really wanted to clear all the donated items, so were selling things off at super low prices. I got some lovely tapestry wool skeins and a couple of craft books.
Now, I just need to be firm at next week’s Vintage and Pre-loved Textiles event. It’s in Rangeworthy near Bristol if anyone is local and wants to build their stash back
Spring cleaning is always a good to do on our annual list.
As a woodworker, bit of timber are my problem, but quite often find that I can upcycle them by gluing up to make fancy looking stripey timber for other project. woodworkers are hoarders by nature.
My current work is making a english cherry and oak sofa sandi style. While mainly looking out for my Mother and her end of life care. I need a project that I can drop and revisit.
Unfortunately, our online presence has suffered, but our aim is for the July challenge, fingers crossed.
Hope everyone is doing well.
