I’ve just received my first one star review for a wax melt that didn’t smell as expected. The buyer was fair commenting the item was well made, no issues with seller or postage but still gave me one star.
Scent is very subjective and it’s difficult to sell something that cannot be smelled prior to purchase but still the scent notes in the description are those of my fragrance oil supplier who are well respected in the wax community.
It feels tough to have received one star but I’m guessing there is little recourse I can make other than take it on the chin and keep on, keeping on.

Could you offer a sample pack so people could try various scents before committing to a full size bar? I totally get what you are saying about scent being subjective and when I see a review saying scent wasn’t for me/ scent wasn’t what I expected that doesn’t put me off but I do like to try out small samples before I commit to a bigger size.
(ps have you checked any other melts from that batch to make sure the scent hasn’t faded for some reason?)

Thank you for replying. I could consider adding the sample sizes I make onto Folksy which I offer on my own website.
I haven’t had any complaints from any other customer regarding the batch and when I packaged the melt, as I cure them in plastic tubs - the cold throw was quite potent. However, I do have a sample from the batch that I will test today. I’m not sure from the review whether the customer thought it didn’t smell or it just didn’t smell of jasmine.

Sorry for your one star that must hurt, but it will soon be lost under lots more 5s.
You could ask if she has done an LFT recently. Maybe she has lost her sense of taste and smell
.
Probably better not
but could be the reason. You could ask her to let you know what the sample smells of to her then you would know if it’s just her nose or not.

Thank you for your kind words, yea it did kinda hurt if I’m honest but onwards and upwards. You’ll know yourself that everything you make and send out you hope is loved as much as the love that went into making it. So when it’s not - it’s disappointing. Covid did cross my mind but obviously will never know!

It’s disappointing that you were given a one star review rather than the buyer contacting you to say she felt there was a problem and giving you the opportunity to rectify it. As Joy mentioned, it will soon be lost amongst the five stars.
