Please help, where am i going wrong?

Hi I wonder if anyone can help?
I’ve been a member of folksy for a while now and unfortunately not made a sale yet.
I have a shop on etsy and make sales there.
I understand its hard to get your first sale having no sales or feedback, but I’m just wondering if there is obvious that you can see I’m doing wrong?
I really want this to work but not sure what else I can do.
I have links from Instagram and twitter to my shop.
Id be grateful for any suggestions
Thanks Lynsey at Brierleyfields

Hi there
Wish I had the answer! Do you pay to promote your listings on Etsy? I have tried having a shop on Etsy and I am a little fish in a massive pond. Competing with genuine handmade and manufactured in bulk stuff thats being passed off as handmade. I don’t list on there now but I have made a few sales on Folksy versus zero on Etsy. Do you use the same tags on Etsy & Folksy if so it could be that algorithms in search engines don’t pick you up. Might be worth altering your tags and descriptions.
Sorry I can’t be of more help.

If you have the same items in both your shops then ditch the link to Etsy from your linktree profile. People recognise the etsy name which combined with its position at the top of your linktree profile will mean that any one clicking on your linktee from social media will head straight for the etsy shop.

Hi Lynsey,

It’s nice to see you here. I think your shop is lovely, nothing ‘wrong’ with it and I suspect it’s going to be a case of lots of little tweaks!

One thing that struck me though when I replied to you over on Instagram was that I wasn’t sure of your name, I couldn’t see it on IG or here on your shop. Customers like to connect to the person behind the shop front. I think you should complete the ‘about me’ for the same reason, you don’t have to tell everyone your life story, but a little bit about yourself and your crafting would go a long way. You live in a beautiful part of the country too, a bit about that would be lovely.

Good luck, I hope that you get your first sale very soon xxx

Thank you so much for your reply, i only promote a couple of items just in case it brings a few extra people but don’t do many as etsys costs me enough as it is.
I have been tweaking with tags the last couple of days so fingers crossed, i find the whole tags and algorithms very hard i have to be the least tech person ever!
I will keep plodding on and fingers crossed it makes a difference.
Thanks again lyns

Thank you so much for your reply, I am very new to the whole social media thing and if I’m honest I don’t really understand it. I don’t think I’ve have gained many sales through it yet but I will defiantly give your suggestion a go.
Thank you lyns

Hi - I joined Folksy recently too in February and have only made one sale (probably more luck than judgement!). Your shop looks great and if you are getting sales on Etsy then there’s probably nothing wrong with your SEO etc. I think with Folksy it’s just a matter of time and patience. Everyone I know seems to be having sluggish sales at the moment in part due to the current economic climate, I’m using this time to polish up listings, review sales options, creating new items and trying to drive sales from social media etc. I might be wrong but although Folksy has a smaller customer base than Etsy it is a less saturated market and more targeted and ‘creative friendly’. I think this is a waiting game and, as Folksy isn’t horrendously expensive, I’m keeping my fingers crossed and looking long term - as far ahead as next Christmas.

Thank you so much for your reply,
I’ve been tweaking a few of the titles and tags the last few days so fingers crossed.
I will defiantly do and “about me” I’m new to the whole social media thing and it a bit alien to me telling people about myself but i understand people like a bit of a back story.
thanks again for your help Lyns x

Hi Lynsey

Try changing your photos around. Your food wraps look great, but the first photo of them is a combined one and because the photos are so small, I had no idea what I was looking at until I read the title of ‘food wrap’. You have some good single photos, so make the first picture that people see one of the larger ones - just on its own.

Your fat quarter pictures are going two different ways - make them all horizontal across the page - not up and down - for consistency and they look better.

It may be a small thing, but people engage with a picture instantly wanting to find out more or dismissing it as not relevant - you never know it might just help.

There are some really good Folksy blogs about pictures and SEOs etc - see if you can find them and have a read. x

Hi  shop looks great to me ! Definitely agree about completing the ‘about me’ section . Just keep it simple ,maybe a few lines to start with ( that’s what I’ve done ) sprinkled some love on your folksy shop and Instagram too . Be patient for a sale . It’s very quiet at the moment . Good luck x

@brierleyfields I’m not sure if you noticed (sometimes our emails end up in spam folders) but we also sent you a few tips from support last week.

It already looks like you’ve made some good improvements from everyone’s advice here though, so I hope it’s not long until you get that first sale :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you, yes I replied to you on Instagram thanking you for your email.
it was brilliant! I’ve been into my listings and made changes.
I’ve seen my stats go up so hopefully it will it will convert in to a sale.
Do you know if I relist an item everyday whether that will get my listing seen ( Not sure if that’s a myth or not )
Thanks Lyns

Are you taking part in the daily challenge thread. 365 daily forum 2022.
They’re ever so helpful, How it works every day you list and item or re -list. You copy the link and post on the forum, then go to everybody else’s page on the forum and favourite an item, they will return the favour. Everbododies help will change your place in the folksy search engine and more public will see it.
You should also pin every item that you sell on your shop, People will see on pinterest and go and have a look. Also join every craft group they;re is on facebook where you can show your stuff.
If you have one near you how about trying to get your crafts in a “Craft Coop”. I believe there’s one in Camberley, Richmond, High Wycombe, Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead. Plus there’s sure to be other shops that sell hand made crafts to the public. Remember even if your at a craft fair get your app up, ask someone to buy it from the shop. Give them a discount forr leaving feedback. and another when their friends buy from you.
