Right to reply

Wouldn’t it be good if we could reply (politely of course) to frustrating reviews on orders?
I see that the 2nd review currently displayed on my shop says the item is ‘a lot smaller than the photo suggests’.
Given that accurate measurements are included in the product description, this has rather irked me!
It would be so helpful to be able to reply noting the above and also to say I’d be happy to make a bespoke size.
I suppose my point is that the review is unfair as it sort of implies deception on my part rather than the lack of attention to detail on the customer’s part, which could put other buyers off.
I suppose I’ll have to take comfort from her other comment which said the product was ‘really lovely and well made’.
Is a reply option something that could be considered @Folksyadmin ?

Totally agree, had one on the ‘Dark Side’ said that the car vinyl didn’t fit on the inside of the window, stated in the description that they fit on the outside, but to message me if wanting it to fit on the inside. Asked Et$y to remove it, they replied that according to the House of Congress the customer can leave their opinion, tried to reply to it , but they use a ‘noreply’ email address. That’s when I left them

I am with you two on this. Unfortunately, in the effort to respect everybody’s right to voice an opinion , they are missing the distinction between opinion and fact. Saying that something that is stated to be 3 inches long is only 3 inches long is not an opinion. Saying something that is a sticker for outside doesnt work as a sticker for inside is not an opinion. An opinion is something which varies from person to person and there is no right answer e.g ‘that colour suits you’ or ‘that picture would look good on that wall’ , some will agree, some wont. A fact is the same for everyone e.g this item is this size, or this item is for outside use.

As a customer, this review wouldn’t worry me at all, as I can clearly see the size in the description. Even if you miss the description and you read the review, it kind of sends you there to actually look for the size. Frustrating yes, but it wouldn’t do any harm to future potential buyers.
Saying that, I would be more worried about the copyright issues that I might come across as a seller, by directly linking one of my items with a big football club and their success. Unless of course I had the licence by the football club to sell their merchandise, it is a massive no no.

SO annoying when this happens  Although even where I have the option to reply publicy on the other side, I usually don’t because I agree with Mina’s view that it wouldn’t put me off as a prospective purchaser - I’d just think the other reviewer was a bit thick.

Very frustrating!

Thank you, all points noted! Hx

I had this once when the the customer hadn’t read the description which clearly stated the measurements. It was when I was just starting on Folksy and only I only had a couple of reviews so I was pretty upset. I reported it to Folksy and they took the review down. I wouldn’t be too concerned now as I have a couple of hundred glowing reviews from happy customers, but at the time I thought it would put people off buying from me.

I agree it’s so annoying when we put so much thought and time into describing it correctly and then the customer doesn’t read it! In the last few years, I’ve done one of the photos with a ruler next to the item as well as a description in the text - but then that also relies on the customer looking at that too!

Yes, I’ve also sometimes used a ruler in photos - it’s a good idea, but not something I want to do every single time. Just wish customers would read the very clear product measurements description!

Totally agree and its something I suggested in the survey request from Folksy a few weeks ago. Not just for negative reviews, but wouldn’t it be nice to be able to thank someone for a positive review too.

I have contacted my best customer in the past and thanked her and wished her well, by using her email address in the order details. These emails don’t show up in reviews for anyone else to see. Jan

Sadly for my customer I couldn’t work out who she was as email didn’t match name on review. But a great idea for the future!

I often do the same when a customer leaves a review, I use the email address from their order to thank them.
