Royal Mail - open to US postage again

I am reading on the other site that some are saying that from today Royal Mail have opened up printing US labels again.

I am not totally fully understanding what it all means but they are saying that it is better to add extras (UK made items are 10% + 0.71p handling fee) to postage fees.

That is if I am understanding it properly. Please enlighten me if I am totally off with this.

That’s my understanding too. I will consider my first order to America post tariffs as a test run to see how and if the new system works :slightly_smiling_face:

Remember that the 10% also applies to the postage as well as the item cost.

I was just about to change them all on bulk edit listing and realised if they are all different prices each one has to be done separately, For now I’m going to take all US postage out then start again and do it bit by bit when I can. I wish there was an easier way it’s a bit of a pain.

Same, I had only just gone through all of my items to remove US. I am not going to turn any back on in either of my shops just yet, I am going to let the dust settle first.

I read this on the other site today too, and realised that if we add the tariff and handling charges onto the shipping fee, we will be charged site fees on the extra too, meaning we have to factor that in as well. :exploding_head:

At least Folksy don’t take fees on the postage.

I’ve done a few test entries (using details from previous US orders) and all are only adding 10% of the item price (not postage) plus 50p handling fee

Thank you for that. Great information.

I have started posting to the USA again (via the other site) and, as you say, mine have all come up with 10% of item price + 50p handling fee with Royal Mail. The customers I’ve posted to this week have said they’ll let me know if/what they’re charged at customs their end.

I’m just adding this on to the postage costs and most of my regular customers in the US (about 80% of my business) are fine about that. I lost all my EU custom (with GSPR) and can’t lose the US too or I’d have to close my (other site) shop and give up on my business.

Well keep us posted as I’d love to hear what the US customer experience is their end. I still haven’t opened my folksy shop up to US yet as I still don’t really know what to do price wise to cover any new fees, I’m thinking maybe just upping the postage but I’m not sure. There’s no ā€˜add 10% button for Americans’! Im not even sure if that’s necessary as I think maybe Art is Exempt from duties. I digress…sorry. Just the panic setting in.

I haven’t opened back up to the US just yet, I want to see how it all pans out.

I’ve not reopened yet either, I took it all out last week so didn’t want to jump in and change it all then have to do it again. There’s another post on the forum about it and a few people have posted to the US and been charged 10% only on the item cost not the postage plus a 50p handling charge. I would like to be able to show on any US purchases how the postage cost is calculated so perhaps have the taxes shown separately as a lot of mine are going to be showing over Ā£30 in postage fees and if customers don’t realise that fee includes the taxes they arn’t going to place the order so I don’t think I need to rush to add it back in again just yet.

Just a thought Debby - why don’t you work something up in to a photo and add it to your listings? Something like ā€œUS customers - please be aware that your shipping cost includes tariff duty which I pre-pay for you before dispatchā€. Maybe as a speech bubble from a bear’s mouth?! :teddy_bear:

Oh that’s an idea Debbie, perhaps just text onto a photo from editing in Google photos that way I won’t have to take anymore photos. Thank you
