Royal mail price rise Oct 2023

Yup Royal Mail is raising some prices again on Oct 2nd

For postage bought online the new prices are here

for postage bought at the post office the prices are here

Looks like the prices for tracked 24 and tracked 48 (only available online) are remaining the same and might provide a cheaper alternative to first class signed for if you can get to an RM depot or do collection. I’ve seen rumours that RM might be running a promotion on tracked/ tracked and signed shipping to the USA for Oct/Nov/Dec but haven’t found any details about that.

Not another rise. We only get a post about twice a week now.

That means having to change all of my postage again

absolutely awful …they are trying to force us out of the market and have no idea that they are shooting themselves in the foot because a lot of people will refuse to send Christmas cards or birthday cards…at this rate the post will soon cease to be…And as Pam says we will have to go through all our listings to change all the postage OR…I will revert to using second class and people will have to wait longer for their items to arrive…

The increases to large letter are ridiculous. I might have to consider dropping all my postage to second class as most of my cards aren’t flat and once packaged are into large letter size. The postage is going to be more expensive than the cards in a lot of cases.

I already use second class but this increase is ridiculous. Wish someone else would jump in for letters but they are not worth people taking on.

Alison @FluffStuffCrafts I have just put an announcement on my shop to say that from October, all items will be sent second class…I refuse to put my prices up x

Honestly I am so fed up with it all at the moment. How can they put the prices up again. The postage costs are making it just too expensive to buy items online as they will go to cheaper shops and pay no postage.

Like you Claire @kernowclaire , I am despairing…I will refuse to send Christmas cards and of course for any of us that sell cards, they are ruining our business. People will stop sending cards soon… What you say is so true…our best shops here in town are Lidl, Aldi and B&M…AND they offer free parking…paying to park in town has already ruined the town and royal mail are putting us out of business…angry , doesn’t really cover how I feel x

They really are putting us all out of business. I’ve really struggled all of this year due to the after effects of the Christmas strikes. I didn’t increase my prices to make up for the additional postage costs at the beginning of the year but I shall have to…very sad and worrying time.

Thanks @SashaGarrett for the online link, saves me looking it all up. To be honest I was delaying looking it up as well…

Royal Mail are definitely trying to kill the post office, 50p more to buy special delivery at the Post office than to buy it online. Criminal.

Indeed it is Claire…I struggle on my pension…they put it up by 50p in April but even a packet of Tesco biscuits has increased from 35p to 65p…luckily I am happy with beans on toast…
I love to paint and sell but it is now getting to the point when I am almost losing money. A few years ago, my sales helped to pay some of the bills but not any more…I would sell my body but I would just be more in debt…ha ha x

@PamelaWestDesigns there is the bulk edit tool for changing postage which might make changing postage again less of a chore

@FluffStuffCrafts is it worth considering doing bundles - 5 cards for £X - so the postage isn’t such a large proportion of the item cost?

It is shocking how everything has increased so much. Lets hope things improve xx

Sasha, @SashaGarrett , most of my customers buy 4 or 5 cards at a time…x

Thank you @SashaGarrett I’ve been avoiding looking. I’ve now taken screen shots of the parts that i need.

I’ve only just properly added the last price increase.

Yes, bundles might be an option - would certainly work for Christmas cards/tags.

I hope bundles work, ,but will people stop sending (and buying) Christmas cards…??. I for one will not send any, so the post office has shot themselves in the foot.

Basic second class letter is staying the same price, so hopefully people will use that for sending cards. I’ll certainly be stocking up on those before October and posting everything a bit earlier. Might have to consider making cards flatter, with fewer embellishments (kind of defeats the purpose of unique, handmade cards though!) :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
