Sewing question, thread colour

Im about to make a start on sewing some shoulder bags.
Each bag has a different fabric colour back front and lining.
When I do topstitching the thread will show.
Can I use the same colour thread throughout, or is there a rule that says I have to change thread colour to match the bit that Im sewing?
I hope that made sense.

I don’t think there is a hard and fast rule about this and if it was me I choose a colour thread which contrasts (but yet is aesthetically pleasing) with all the fabrics and then sew the whole thing with that one colour to make the stitching a feature.

I agree with Sasha, I love the look of contrasting thread! Could you make 2 and then see which you prefer? x

I would always use the same colour thread but, depending on your fabrics contrasting thread would also look good.

There are no rules - it’s your design so you get to make all the choices. Just go with whatever takes your fancy.

Thanks @PocketfulCreations . I think Ive chosen complimentary colours so they will hopefully look ok.
