So I’ve gone and confused myself been googling for literal hours, so no EU because of the gpsr issues and needing a representative there.
No USA at the moment because of the customs tariff issues.
but….. rest of the world folksy shipping option, can I use this ?
It includes some places like Russia , Ukraine and I’m not sure what our policies are or ours to ship there anymore
it includes China , Switzerland etc are all these places ok to ship to without causing issues like the eu ones or the American ones , I’d love to still have Australia and Canada there.
I only ship to the UK now, would love Australia and New Zealand but lumped under row. No way would I send to Russia, Ukraine not right atm. Basically the shipping options are a mess.
On the other site I have suspended shipping to US for obvious reasons, but I have always shipped to New Zealand, Canada and Australia. Have this week, again for obvious reasons, added Belgium, Switzerland, Netherlands and Ireland because these have packaging thresholds, so if you send less than a certain amount in a year you seem to be OK without paying for a licence or having representatives etc. But there’s no way to single out countries on here so for the meantime I am just shipping to UK (which is moot of course, because I haven’t sold anything here for about 18 months!)
I am sticking to UK only. Last week I posted an item to Ireland …. this was a gift for a friend not an order. Posted tracked (£8.50) and declared on customs form that it was a gift with value <£40. Thought all was good but recipient was charged £18.50 fee - not sure why but won’t take the risk again.
It would be better if we could add our own options to where we post to with the amounts due. A section under postage add Belgium and the amount. Have had enquiries from Belgium but did not realise not a problem.
ATM sales are dire and the Folksy software is not up to scratch.
Opening another shop on another platform, got to do something to move sales along. Cannot keep making forever. If I stopped making now would take me over 10 years to sell everything in my shop.
I’ve switched to UK only again. I’ve only had one sale to the US, so it’s not a big loss for me. I really feel for people who had a lot of sales there .
I’d made the mistake of adding a little blurb about my shipping into the description of every single listing. Had my shop on Holiday mode over the summer, everything changed, and I ended up having to edit every listing when I reopened the shop yesterday, which took all day! So there’s a lesson - leave shipping details in the shipping section where they can be bulk edited!
It’s getting harder all the time isn’t it, yesterday an old customer from Ireland wanted to buy a bear, I told her I don’t ship there now, she said can it go to a uk address so I said yes of course. She had problems with PayPal and the order would not go through. I mentioned I have a customer in France who does the same and no problems with PayPal. I Asked if she could change the delivery address, She still had a problem so I added shipping to EU and ticked the boxes thinking perhaps I was blocking it. Unfortunately it charged Folksy £30.35 in taxes. I was gutted, immediately messaged support to applogise, I am hoping they can reverse it somehow or claim it back in their accounts. I was shocked at how much they charged and that Folksy have to pick up the bill. It won’t happen again, admin said perhaps she missed the option on PayPal to change the address and I didn’t know Folksy would get any charge as I don’t know the terms for shipping to the EU so had no idea. I still feel dreadful as it’s not fair that they should have to pick up the bill. I obviously made an error in allowing the postage because it then let the Ireland address through. I am waiting to hear whether or not they have been successful in over riding it seeing as it’s not actually going to be posted to Ireland.
Oh no! That sounds awful! Hopefully it will get sorted soon. I have been selling for so many years, early days at craft fairs, It maybe time to look for another venture.
Yes it was awful. It certainly isn’t getting any easier selling online @frutejuce@CrystalSeahorseDesigns it’s a shame things had to change, I suspect there will be a lot of businesses giving up especially after the changes to selling in the EU.
I’ve had a really good month but did have a few quieter ones and I even started to consider my options. I’m hoping I’m back on track now but it’s still quieter than the past couple of years and a lot of sellers are saying the same.
I’ve decided to leave the postage as set for the US for now and if any orders come through I will have to apologise and either hold until Royal mail get it sorted or cancel the order.
Wonder how it manages to charge Folksy. With PayPal the money goes to you less PayPal fee . Can’t see how Folksy is involved in the financial transaction .
With Stripe yes as they deduct Folksy fee. How very odd.
Because it went as an Ireland delivery address so basically an EU Delivery Folksy gets charged for the taxes which was £30.35
It doesn’t affect the money I receive from the customer but Folksy pay the tax on the item supposedly going into that country which is part of the EU. It’s a lot of money they lose if there are sellers still sending to EU countries
It’s the IOSS vat and calculated on the daily exchange rate, the bear was £128
I honestly don’t know much about it, when I get chance I will read up on it, my order went through and there was a note on it saying Folksy pays the VAT at the point of sake. I believe all platforms have to do the same. Whether or not that fee is recoverable at year end accounts or not I don’t know. I just saw the amount and felt awful because it’s going to a uk address so the thought of them paying it was dreadful. I don’t know how it all work
@JOYSofGLASS i would imagine it is Hmrc or the countries tax equivalent but not sure
I believe Folksy pay it for items under a specific amount, my take on it is if I had my own website and sold direct I would have to pay it and register for IOSS. However as this was in error I am hoping they may be able to reclaim it.
