Hello everyone,
I’m new here and selling jewellery. At the moment I am offering free postage and including it in my overall charge but is it better to have a lower selling price and then charge postage.
I’d appreciate your opinions, thank you!

Welcome to Folksy Helen
As a customer, free postage looks like an attractive perk, but as a seller you have to bear in mind that when Folksy take their commission on sales, they don’t include postage, just the price of the item you are selling, so by including postage in your price you will end up paying more commision per item.
If you want to stick with free postage, it might be worth doing some calculations and adding a little bit extra to your prices, to cover the cost of the extra commission.
Good luck with your shop.

Thank you for your reply. That’s really useful and I hadn’t thought about that!
Personally I know there’s no such thing as free posting so I’m not swayed by it.
As a buyer, if I’m comparing my options, I always look at the item price and shipping price and compare the totals (because I’m not fooled by “free shipping” and know it’s got to be hiding there somewhere)… so really it doesn’t make a difference to me. At least until I want to buy multiple items from someone, and then it’s usually better if they do have shipping listed because then it can be combined, which never happens with free shipping.
Although I have done polls on twitter and it seems there are a lot of people out there who prefer to see free shipping to properly split, even if the total price is the same.
One thing I do always think about is which is going to be easiest to change when it gets to the end of March and the postage prices go up and you have to change every listing.
