I am not a potter but I know there are a lot of you on Folksy. You make some beautiful pieces but did you see Pottery Throwdown last night.. The self sculpture by Christine was absolutely fantastic. The beauty of the shape and meaning was incredible.
I did and I totally agree, everything about it, just amazing!
I am not a potter either, but admire who are, and really enjoy the programme.
Last and only time I tried it was at school 50 years ago. Always fancied another try but I’m messy at the best of times. I’m covered in paint before I open a tube😫
Yes I did at school many years ago too, a coiled dish I believe. I wouldn’t have the strength now to lift the slabs of clay, never mind shape them into something amazing!
I think it’s very good and although I’ve never done pottery, I think so much of it can be applied to other crafts. Some time ago, they had to just make as many teapots as they could in a certain time, and honestly they amazed themselves! It was to demonstrate that often we think too much about the making and worrying that we are going to ‘do it right’ rather than just getting on with it and trusting our instincts. I’ve tried to remember that when I have any self doubt. I love seeing how much they learn and grow in confidence.
Yes, I will agree with that. Many times I have tried to create an effect and it wouldnt work but an accident created it better than I ever could.
