So this is what’s been taking up all my time these last few weeks! This is the 20 year old Pashley Princess I’ve been slowly turning into a mobile stall for street trading. The front and back displays are made from upcycled vintage cases, and we (my dad helped quite a lot!) custom built the copper rear rack to fit the suitcase. It’s got the heaviest-duty centre stand I could find on the market, and I bet even the Stoltmans would struggle to bend those racks! It’s been a labour of love!
Now comes the real test - I have to submit my street trader’s licence application. The (very hefty) licence fee is non-refundable, so it’s a huge terrifying risk. The bike’s rock solid though, and no less manageable than a laden touring bike - more than that I can not do!
What a great idea. Reminds me of the Gerald Durrell books My family and other animals. There was the Rose Beetle Man who travelled around selling all manner of exotic goodies from a large box.
@VioletFlameGlassArt yes, I’m sure these things were simpler in days gone by, without so much paperwork (and cash!) having to change hands!
Jacqueline @jftalbotdesigns I’m afraid the bravery remains to be seen! My real fear is that the council will invite me to the meeting to support my application in person - apparently they do that sometimes. I have hideous public speaking anxiety, so I’m trying to include as much info with the application that I can. When I left my job in conservation I vowed I’d never go to another meeting ever again!
Wow! That is amazing Carrie - how brilliant! I wish you all the luck I wonder if you might share your adventures on Instagram reels or something similar - would love to see it in action
