This Friday is Black Friday and stage 2 of our Christmas Campaign! It’s called ‘Celebrate Handmade’ and the idea is get people to ditch the discounts and buy handmade instead. We want people to understand the value of handmade and what it means when they buy something from an artist, designer or maker – that their purchase REALLY DOES makes a difference and whenever they choose handmade they are enabling someone to carry on make a living from what they do.
PLEASE JOIN IN and help us get this message out there! For it to work, we need as many people getting involved, talking about it and sharing it as possible. There is strength in numbers!!!
This is how you can join in…
Share at least 4 posts on social media over the Black Friday weekend, telling people
What it means to you when someone buys one of your pieces
What makes giving and receiving handmade so special
What goes into each of your pieces - the process, skills, story and person behind the product
Why buying handmade is a good thing – why people should choose to shop small, independent and handmade
Use the #celebrate_handmade hashtag on all your posts
Tag Folksy in all your posts so we can see and share them more easily.
If you have a blog, it would be amazing if you could write a post about why you want to Celebrate Handmade - and tell us about it on social so we can share it (don’t forget to tag us!)
Feel free to use the graphics in this post or create your own! We’ll be making more this week (and over the weekend) from all the quotes people have given us so far and your hand videos and pictures too.
If you could let me know if you think you can join in and what you’re going to do, that would be wonderful.
Thank you!
Oooo I’m so looking forward to this. If you need any more quotes I have been sharing what handmade means to me on my instagram for just a card week. Take a look
I’ll be sharing as much as I can over the weekend on instagram.
Hi Camilla @folksycontent I’m trying to think of a quote to go with the photo of my hands knitting, but I’m so busy in my day job today and will be again tomorrow, that I’m having a complete mind blank if I don’t provide a quote, does that mean my photo can’t be used?
In fact I shouldn’t even be sneaking on the forum today…
Plus I’ve got some tweets happening (https://twitter.com/photofairytales) and I’ll be doing some retweeting this afternoon too. I’ll try and get something on FB if I can too.
I put this on my fb page…do I need to put it anywhere else?..I don’t do instagram etc…
. Brenda Gweddus OK…I don’t particularly like the idea of Black Friday…this is the UK and I hate the idea of people pushing and shoving to get bargains…
However, I do have an online shop with FOLKSY #Folksy this is a website where people who are artistic, crafty or talented in lots of ways, can open a shop and sell what they have made. There are hundreds of Folksy shops with people selling many different kinds of things. Art,Jewellery, carvings, sewing, crochet, knitting, pottery…the list is endless…
NO NEED to go out and get crushed…there are some amazing items for sale by many talented people. So if you are looking for some special gift for Christmas or any time, check out folksy www.folksy.com#Folksy#HQFolksy
Please support talented craft workers…
I thought of one this morning whilst putting my eyeliner on! I posted it on my Instagram first thing. I think of things at the weirdest times sometimes!
That spammer sounded like a heartbreaker wrong’un before we even got to know him
Got mine up now on Instagram. (I’m Myrtle House Gift Gallery and I always follow back!) Combining with the JustACard Ig challenge which has been running all week. There are so many fab posts to read if you’re an instagrammer. Happy Bright and Colourful Friday to you all.
