Update to the Folksy Community Policy

To reiterate, the rules around sharing content have not changed - we have just tried to make them clearer.

The existing policy states:

while the updated policy states:

We need to include this in the policy because all content you find online is owned by someone, and there are laws concerning sharing other people’s images.

We do not consider sharing a Folksy Friday or someone else’s item in a promotion thread to be breaking our policy, as promoting someone else’s work is generally beneficial to their business, however if anyone ever states they don’t want that, please respect it.

If it’s something off Folksy (that otherwise fits our terms to post), consider whether the copyright owner will want the content freely shared. Is there any mention of copyright or usage rights? Is it content that has been available for a fee? If you’re unsure, check with the copyright holder, because we don’t know what everyone’s permissions are to answer for them.

If we are ever contacted by a copyright holder because their content has been shared on the forum without their permission, we will remove this at their request.

Folksy itself has the rights to use content on Folksy due to the terms sellers agree to - Folksy's Terms of Use – Folksy Support & Knowledge Base.

What is the situation regarding Folksy sellers asking where to buy items that are not on Folksy, does this mean that someone cannot suggest and post pics of an item say on Az or Eb?

@DawnChorusCreations We can’t say what everyone else’s permissions are on their own content. If it’s an item for sale that you’re simply sharing, then as with Folksy sellers, most people would usually be happy with this (as long as you’re crediting/linking back to them) as it’s beneficial to their business.

However if there’s anything to suggest they don’t want it used by anyone else, respect that, and if the copyright holder gets in contact with us asking us to remove it, we will do that.
