Updates to the Homepage

I am now actively checking the recently listed items most days and if I spot something I like I go to the shop and ‘love it’ and then pin it on my Pinterest page…if everyone did this it would surely help a little to promote Folksy as a whole and to help some individual sellers.

I really like the change to the newly listed section on the front page - it doesn’t matter how many items you re-list or list at a time, only one from each seller appears, so it shows a lovely varied mix of new or re-listed items. We can still re-list as much as we like, but they don’t all hit the front page in a block. Nice one @sianfolksy

I have to say, I don’t like it at all.
When folksy removed the recently listed section from the front page my sales dropped dramatically and I was lucky to get 1 a month, since it was put back a few weeks ago my shop was in holiday mode for the first week but in the second I got 4 sales in 1 week (more than I have had in the last 4 months) if my sales go back to 1 a month I won’t be renewing my plus account or staying on folksy!
The plus account was put there to relist and in my opinion that contains the front page, you can’t go changing it because people who don’t have a plus account moan about it!

I agree. I don’t mind it being limited to maybe 4 or 5 but 1 seems a bit low. The Plus account is not what we paid for anymore. This just seems like yet another change, not for the better.

I noticed the other day that a shop was fetured on the front page, covereing about 1/4 of the page(selling very nice things) but the seller was on holiday! Surely it makes more sense to show the work of somebody who is there to send out possible sales.

I think the balance is still not right. I do think we should all get a crack of the whip, so to speak, plus account or not. I think the front page still needs work. Like how do the staff favourites get chosen? Are they newly listed or fav shops?

The Plus Account is not a promotion package we are purchasing from Folksy. We are allowed to list as many items as we want, whenever we want without paying more. It’s supposed to save us money and that’s Folksy’s way to say ‘thank you for paying your money up front for a year.’ That’s what it is, that’s the way I understand it. Keep listing batches after batches, especially on the weekends, is misuse of the product. And besides, spamming is not an attractive way of promoting your business.

I have to agree with @Minerva - my interpretation of the plus account is that it allows me to have lots of items in my shop knowing in advance that it won’t cost me more than the annual fee. It also allows me to list items that perhaps I am not too sure about that I wouldn’t list if I paid per listing. Being able to relist items frequently is just an additional feature that I’m not sure even does anything for your visibility other than a brief moment at the bottom of the homepage although I do actually prefer that the number per shop is now limited.

Glad you noticed the update yesterday, and most of you see it as a positive!

To confirm, we’ve limited the number of “Newest items on Folksy” that are displayed in the panel of 8 items on the homepage to 1 for each seller. If you click to ‘see more’, you will see all of the most recently listed items.

We feel this improves the homepage experience for buyers and as always we will be testing it and getting buyer feedback, but do keep letting us know what you think.

Fab solution, well done team Folksy

I’m not sure where you are looking at…I see a variety of items in the first lines and that looks great…and then I see a shop / shops with large batches again. I checked at 2 different times and that’s the pattern.

The way I see it is everyone is different therefore will have a different reason for purchasing the plus account. I do not ‘spam’ my shop and I do not agree with people who list their whole shop in one go but I have over 500 items in my shop so I relist it several times throughout the day which I am entitled to do with the plus account.
I think there is a link between the front page and my sales and I am not being negative I simply have a difference of opinion.
I am pretty sure if your sales went from 30 a month to 1 a month you would have something to say about it too.

The panel of 8 ‘Newest items on Folksy’ on the homepage.

We’re only limiting the number of items displayed at any given moment to 1 per seller, and that is just in the panel of 8 items on the homepage. If you re-list throughout the day, one item from each batch will display on the front page each time you re-list, and all the items that are re-listed will be displayed in their batches on the full ‘recently listed’/show more page (which is always accessible from the front page).

Yes I understand that thank you.

I think the 8 newly listed items on the front page is an excellent idea, giving a more even chance to everyone. Could the same principle be given to the whole of the recently listed items, say no more than 6 from any one seller shown on any page. Folksy is not a fair playing field, I don’t think it will ever be so. So it’s a case of accept it or go somewhere else.

Those of you who have the Plus Account and get lots of sales, it’s because you treat it as a promotion package. You list often, you list lots, you are constantly in the front page, you get more visibility and therefore more sales. If that works for you, that’s great.

However, you limit the visibility of other shops who don’t have the Plus Account. But that doesn’t necessarily mean we spend less money than you. And some of us come to the Forums, help each other out, contribute to Folksy Admin when changes or problems occur. Some of those sellers who spam listing and monopolise the front page don’t contribute (at least I don’t see them here) and hide our listings and work.

And of course, if they put buyers off with this behavior, then the rest of us are affected too. We are talking about the Front Page of an online marketplace, not individuals’ websites. I really think Admin should perhaps look into the Plus Account again and see what benefits it can offer so we can have a win / win situation.

I see what you mean about the 8 items panel and it does look so much better. But what about the rest when someone clicks on ‘see more’?

I think it looks great. I like that the front page is limited but you can still see everything when you click. I have found so many more new shops and items since the recently listed section was re-introduced. I think my shop views may even have gone up as a result too.

I think you are being a little unfair - not all plus listers behave in the way you describe and some plus listers do a lot to raise awareness of folksy to shoppers in general which benefits us all. I have a plus account because I have lots of listings and it makes financial sense. I have lots of listings because this is my full time job and I need a wide range of items/ colours to attract customers so that I can (attempt to) support myself. I don’t relist them frequently and try to do it in small batches when I do and as far as I know I don’t spend any time on the front page getting any extra promotion for having a plus account. I’m regularly in the forums helping people out when I can and helping folksy admin when I find non uk sellers or someone is sending con emails (which is normally done without going anywhere near the forums). If changes were made to the plus account then they would need to be done so that those of us who behave considerately don’t loose out.
