Having watched and really enjoyed The Durrells on the telly, I am reading The Corfu Trilogy. I think I must have read My Family and Other Animals years ago. I am now on the third book and they are all brilliant.
My sister just bought my Dad a gorilla. Well she sponsored one on his behalf and the letter that came about it was from the Durrell Trust.
(Thereās a possibility it was a donkey not a gorilla - sheās gotten him both in the recent past)
Just started āTess of the Dāurbervillesā by Thomas Hardy, Iām hooked already
Glad you are enjoying Tess, itās one of my all time favourites. Iām now reading āGone Girlā or āGirl Goneā as I described it to my daughter the other day!!! She thought it was hilarious!! Senior blonde moment I think!
Iām reading two books at the moment one is
Mass Communication Theory An Introduction by Denis McQuail
the other is
William Carey by S PearceCarey
I just finished reading Lady of Hay. Quite enjoyed it, despite it showing its age in some respects. Barbara Erskine is one of my slightly guilty pleasures!
My Family and Other Animals is high up on my list - Iāve heard a lot of people talk very highly of it. I missed the TV programme though unfortunately.
Iāve just read two novels by Rachel Joyce.
The Unlikely Pigrimage of Harold Fry and its companion book
The Love Story of Miss Queenie Hennessey.
These are the best novels I have read recently and well worth a read, but you need to read them both. Just as a taster, Harold Fry was walking from Devon to Berwick on Tweed to save Miss Queenie Hennessey who was dying of cancer. It sounds a bit gruesome, but both books had me in tears with laughing,
Iāve met Barbara Erskine- a lovely lady.
Reading āShiftā by Hugh Howey- my obsession with the post apocalyptic genre continues.
Oooh Wool is on my list too! Iām in a bit of a fiction slump at the moment, think I overdid it in May. So I am craving nature and history books just now.
Is Wool a good read, I assume it is as youāre on the second(?) in the series!
Not just me with a weird genre obsession then - I currently cant get enough of time travel fiction. Its all Stephen Kings fault.
Well I finally finished My Grandmother sends her Regards and Apologies. It was good, butā¦i wonāt be asking for my own copy so I can reread it. Next book club isnāt until September, so in-between I am going to read a chick lit, The Simple Rules of Love, by Amanda Brookfield.
Suzzie x
Was that 11/22/63? Iāve always been a bit scared of Stephen King!
Yes, that oneās not really a scary one although it is quite gruesome in a couple of places. Iāve read The Time Travellers Wife and Time and Again (and in the middle of its belated sequel From Time to Time) since.
Iām also tempted to reread Making History by Stephen Fry - Iāve got fond memories of that one.
Although apart from Timetravellers Wife theyāre all basically the same story.
Might have to give it a go then if itās not too spooky!
Yes itās a prequel actually, quite interesting and a little bit unsettling so far.
for all you fellow Fantasy fans , my daughter-in-lawās niece has just published her first novel called āDeicideā. Itās available from Amazon as a paperback or as a Kindle book. Iāve ordered mine. Hereās link so that you can read the blurb.
Oooooo looks good, I shall definitely download it
Iāve downloaded it and read the prologue, the rest of it has gone to the top on my reading list
Wow! Iāve ordered the paperback, at this rate youāll have finished before I even get mine!
