Ooh this is a useful topic! I have a fb page, but struggling to get followers, it seems to be the same few friends liking things for me. Also it says I’m getting zero reach - that can’t be right can it? Anyone know why that might be happening?
I use pinterest in phases, I can spend too much time on there! It did help me get into a Folksy gift guide though as I did a Folksy Floral pinterest board. I ought to get back into that really.
Ive just joined instagram this morning, but not put anything on yet - I’m looking forward to getting to grips with it.
I use all of them (FB, Twitter, Insta, Pinterest, Tumblr) and find Pinterest and Tumblr the best for me in terms of traffic!
Pinterest I use a lot and have lots of different boards, both for my personal use and for inspiration and for promotion, but I try to tailor what I pin to what my audience would like? So I have board for Interior Decoration, Food/Recipes and Travel, but I will pin the sort of images I think my audience would be interested in. That said my most popular boards are the ones promoting fashion (Design Inspiration, Style and Styling (which is my sort of ‘general fashion’ board) and Ethical Brands which is specifically for other eco-friendly/ethical brands, as the name suggests!
Tumblr I only just started using and it’s very much as a blog so I’m posting updates as well as reblogging (again, for my target market) veggie recipes and eco-friendly bits and bobs - i’ve only had that about a month and only have a handful of followers but have seen traffic to my website and online stores from there! I’d recommend it if your target market is young/trendy as a blogging platform as users can find you through tags in site rather than other blogging platforms like google.
That said I have the most followers on FB - mostly friends IRL though! And the reach isn’t very good… - and Twitter - lots of other companies and publications though, not necessarily fans.
It’s hard to juggle them all but I found a huge upswing in Twitter followers when I got Tweetdeck which makes it easy to see how my followees are following (very relevant, I’ve got myself onto fashion/eco fashion directories through that feature and follow relevant bloggers etc also) and to follow relevant hashtags.
I like instagram but I don’t think I get much traffic from it/it’s hard to know what to post. I don’t enjoy brands who are constantly promoting their own stuff but there aren’t a lot of great WIP shots I can post?
Instagram is my favourite at the moment! There is so much inspiration on there! But I don’t get much traffic from there. I do like to use it for work in progress pictures though! I tried promoting my Facebook page for a long time but I only get likes from friends there, so not worth it. I do get traffic from Pinterest and it’s great for inspiration
Hi,
Can I ask what might be a silly question? How do you know that you are getting traffic from certain media? By traffic do you mean visitors to your folksy shop? How do you know where they have come from? Hope thats not too many questions! Thanks
Hi, I sell on another platform which gives statistics that tell me where people are coming from. I’ve only just re-opened my shop on folksy, but I did use google analytics with my previous shop, which does give you information about what counties visitors are coming from and other info, which you might find helpful. Sorry I didn’t mean to give you mis-information there. Traffic is people coming through to your folksy shop. Hope that helps
Hi, yes I know what you mean…all the promoting can take up a lot of time too! But I think it’s worth it, as the more you can get your work out on social media, the more you’ll get noticed. If you’ve got instagram, whenever you post something there, you can also share to lots of other social media sites too. Good luck with your shop
Hi Peeps! been a long time since Ive written on this!! I read something a few weeks ago (had those moments where I didn’t actually save where I read it from! ) but it was interesting. It basically said that because theres so many media platforms, trying to do them all can actually make your content poor, as your trying to juggle every single one. This article said it was better to stick with one, maybe two of the social platforms but you make the content suer good. So if you prefer fb, you stick with that, if instagram, stick with that! I tend to stick with instagram and fb, I have found lately I’ve been getting afew more followers…i think fb is becoming harder and harder because they want you to pay for it.
