When to close for christmass

Hellow gorgess people ,

Im wondering when everyone is thinking about closing up shop for christmass i cant help but think its soon im always worryied about things getting trapped in the poast but royall mail dont seam quite as overwelmed this year

I gess im wondering what everyone else is doing

I’m doing the ā€˜not too late’ promotion next weekend and then shutting on Mon 18th so I can get any last minute orders on their way and then relax and enjoy Christmas with the family. Not reopening until after New Year, so I can have a proper break!

Same, closing on 18th so that gives me an extra couple of days to clear any backlog before the last posting date.

I’m not closing for Christmas or New Year. I’ve put a last order date in my shop announcement and if any orders come in after that I will email them and say it won’t arrive in time for Christmas. I use tracked 24 or special delivery for my items and Royal Mail has admitted they prioritise these over some of the other services (second class is always the last one to get dealt with) so I’m not particularly worried about things getting held up in the post but have adjusted my date to give me time to get items packaged and to the local RM depot.

(ps I’m one of these weird people who doesn’t see family at christmas due to travel issues so I don’t mind keeping an eye on my shop when most people are taking time off and relaxing)

If in at home I am open. I am home so my shop stays open. Most people understand they can’t order on Saturday 23rd and get a delivery for Xmas day.

I don’t close as not everyone is shopping for Christmas and I don’t have exciting travel plans, but I’ve put 17th as my recommended last day for ordering for Christmas, so I can still take part in the final shopping event, and it’s still a couple of days ahead of Royal Mail’s given date for first class so a bit less worry in case there are delays.

I’ve never closed for Christmas.

We’ll be missing the last Folksy event - all of the last three or four have been over weekends where we have been out at markets - so we have decided to close our shop at midnight on Wednesday 13th as we are out at a show 14-16th and then driving 400 miles to go north on the 20th. I don’t do last minute haring around and there will be enough to do with last minute preparations for going north. We are not re-opening until 11th January so we have a week with family and then some time for ourselves as we never manage holidays mid-year apart from going north to visit our elderly parents. You just have to work out what is best for you.

I don’t close for Christmas either.
Like others have mentioned, I always email customers with an ā€˜I can’t guarantee it will arrive for Christmas’ message, but often they are buying for January birthdays - or sometimes for the next Christmas!
I don’t really do much at Christmas, so I guess it depends how busy you are going to be.

I have ā€œlast ordersā€ on Sunday 17th, which gives me time to pack and post within Royal Mail recommended dates. Then I’m closed to do family stuff and sleep! I did a mass relist before my Plus account expired, so all my remaining listings expire on 21st Dec anyway. The plan is to start with completely new listings in the new year.

Im home, so won’t be closing at all.

People are perfectly capable of looking at the royal mail last posting dates themselves and working out if they’ve got time for christmas buys or not. They can also see if post offices are open, or not. The info is freely available.

I’ve now put my shop ā€˜on holiday’ on That Other Site That We Don’t Mention but am hanging on here for another week!

I’m staying open over Christmas.
I’m certainly not expecting to be run off my feet, but a trickle of orders is actually quite nice.
