Which photo is best?

I only have 42 scarves to re-photograph! Thought I might as well try and get it right before I do them all!

Tell me Roz, are you using this photography thing to avoid doing something you don’t enjoy? :grinning:

Don’t like the headed mannequin in any of those shots. I prefer the white blouse to the black for all the scarves - quite surprised by that cos I thought I’d prefer the light/dark contrast. Those naked mannequins… I swear I’m gonna have nightmares about those tonight!

I find the plain grey and plain white background to stark; I like the bottom right background but not sure about that floating/ghostly thing again. Can you put her on the grey base with that graduated grey background? Or will that be too much grey?

Kind regards
Jan.

Firstly, thank you Roz. Fantastic to see these done, I was going to list them all individually, and then I realised that I prefer the top right on every one. The exception is the last blue one which I think looks best in the top left image. The grey scarf looks really lovely with the grey base. Best wishes, Gloria.

Like Jan I find the grey base with the white back ground stark and a bit artificial (the colour is too flat) - could the grey base be lightened a shade or 2, middle shot 7th row looks like it might be lighter than the others, could it go a shade lighter still? My eye is being drawn to the line where the backdrop meets the grey and i think it needs just a little softening. Definately prefer it when she’s sat on something and not floating in the middle of the shot.
Now the model has all of her head I don’t mind either way if she has it or not (why do I have the phrase ‘off with her head’ running through my brain?) ditto the rest of her clothing the scarf is covering all the important bits so its not as if we have a naked model scampering about is it.
Not sure I’ve helped in any way.

Wow, you have been busy.
I like the grey base with either the plain white or the slightly graduated background.
I now prefer the headless mannequin, (you can get a closer shot of the scarf)
All the scarfs look good on the naked mannequin. It gives a clear, clean and consistent look to the photo’s.

Oh! Roz you have been busy.
Like Gloria I favour the top right photo of all the different scarves, with the exception of the last one which I find the bottom right is my favourite.
Hope this is helpful. Lynn x

Hi Roz, Well, you’ve been very bus. I like all top right hand pics and I prefer grey base with white background. Hope that helps

Thanks - you’ve all been really helpful - think I am going to stick with the headless mannequin with no additional clothing. Still playing with the backgrounds a bit but the grey base seems popular and I think it makes the whole thing more “real”. I have tried making the main background a light grey colour rather than white now and I think it helps blend the whole picture together. Guess what I’ll be doing tomorrow while I wait for my house buyers surveyor to find fault with my house - heres hoping for a bright, good photography day

Hi Roz. I’ve just been looking at your scarves - photos are looking really good.

Thank you - nearly done them all - but getting a bit bored with it now. Don’t think I could take up photography as a career!

Wow, looking very good, what patience you have.
