See,I knew it,we only ever get to see that tiny fraction of what people on Folksy can do,they are lovely but I suppose you are too busy as a jeweller to make them to list.
Yes,there are not enough hours in the day.
With most of these things, they take too long to make to be able to charge properly for - so best to give them as gifts.
I think that holds true with most things we make,a proper hourly rate would price them off the market. But for some things I am influenced by what Damion Hirst said " I have created it,therefore it exists, that is enough".
I made this pincushion from sterling and a walnut shell from our tree, then I made the fatal mistake of using what varnish I had,a gloss mahogany and I don’t like it,I should have bought some clear matt.
Just been playing around with a fibre picture - not strictly felt as the fibres have been left unfelted and just secured behind glass. Wont be listing this one on Folksy due to difficulty and cost of postage but maybe someone at a craft fair will love it
They certainly wil,I can see that hanging on someones wall, gorgreous piece of work.
This is an appliqued cushion I made. It was commissioned by a work colleague for his daughter’s 18th Birthday.
Bet she was well pleased with that.
I make stuff obsessively, not just for my shop.
I have a 3m bench with baskets under that I store my yarns in and it is covered in textiles.
You are more tidy than me, it would never get put back and remain tipped out on the floor.
She was so pleased that she asked her Dad to bring her to work so that she could thanks me personally, which I thought was a lovely gesture.
Just for a change I made something for me, that I’d like to share with you. It is my form’s prom on Friday, and when it is my form I make a bit more of an effort, I’ve had a dress made from ombré silk that graduates from midnight blue at the top down to silver. I’ve also made a special necklace to go with it. Kyanite, pearl and navy quartzite so. Rather pleased with the result. Still needs a little tweaking, earrings and possibly a bracelet, but pleased.
