Actual real life selling

Hello,

I have a quick question. Does anyone sell their items at local craft fairs or galleries? If so, what do you do if an item listed in your shop sells in the gallery? Can you just delete the listing? Sorry, I am new to Folksy and just getting the hang of things.

Hi, you can delete an item if it sells elsewhere or hide it from sale until you get a chance to remake and restock.

If you were worried about things selling in both place as the same time you could always hide the things you take to market from sale for the day and return them to sale on your return.

When I sell something elsewhere I edit to change title to have a SOLD prefix and set stock to ZEro. This takes if off my for sale list but is still there for someone to see if they find a social media link to it … So they can then message me for another :crazy_face:

As the shop I sell in only sends an end of month sales sheet and I run the risk of selling something twice, if I put it to the shop then I hide the listing. I rotate items on a regular basis to keep my shelf fresh so I then just unhide it again if it doesn’t sell in the shop. If I’m at a craft fair then I put my shop in holiday mode for the duration of the fair.

Like @JenStarKnits, if something is away for an amount of time such as when in a gallery or shop then I will hide it (because even if it isn’t sold in the gallery, if it sold on Folksy it wouldn’t be easy to just go and take it away immediately to send to the Folksy buyer).

For a one day event like a craft fair I leave things in my shop and then if they sell will do similar to @JOYSofGLASS and change the title to start “Sold…” and then hide the item. I don’t bother with putting my shop on holiday because my online sales aren’t that frequent so I don’t have much risk of selling the same thing twice, but if you have a busy shop it might be better to do it that way.

Many of us find it better to hide/put the listing out of stock rather than delete the listing because that will delete any trace of your listing, so if you’d shared it on social media or pinterest then those links would no longer lead back to your shop. Even if you sell one of a kind items so don’t have another exactly the same to sell, if someone can still view your listing that says “unavailable”, then they can still contact you to ask if you can make something similar.

When I go to craft fairs I put my shop into holiday mode, if anything I have listed on Folksy sells then I adjust the stock amount before reopening. Most of mine are one-offs so I could delete the listing but if someone clicks on a link (e.g on Facebook) a deleted listing takes them nowhere but an out of stock listing takes them to the page (making it clear the item is out of stock) but also provides suggestions from your shop that they might like.

Up until this year, I’ve always had two sets of stock - those that are sold online and those that go out to the craft fairs. Saves the hassle of messing with listings, or making a copper pig at 3am in the morning! Because I needed to shift stock as I wasn’t going out, I’ve put a lot more online - not sure what I’m going to do in a couple of weeks time as I have actual in-person fairs starting again!
