Hi Folks !
I was wanting advise from you long standing Folksy sellers or those with a keen eye…
I sell small artworks on Folksy and it ticks along nicely… I also make textile jewellery and putting together a collection at the Boho and old world themes theme so I’m not sure if it would be more sensible having another shop with a new look
or even if you are allowed 2 shops? Do any of you sell completely different things in your shops and if so does it work ,or do any of you have 2 shops?
Keen to get some viewpoints xx
You are allowed 2 shops - you need a second email address to set up the second shop but you can link it to the same paypal/ stripe accounts. You do have to log out of one account and then into the other to manage the shops.
I think I’d be inclined to pop the jewellery in your current shop so you can gauge interest before potentially spending time setting up a whole new shop for it.
I originally made just stained glass and my shop has been here since 2009 and keeps me nicely busy. When I started making fused glass too I thought about having a second shop but decided that was too much effort admin and promotion wise.
I keep to 6 categories in my shop as it looks neat and I prefer to have my listings as high up the shop front as possible so that works best for me. So I use 4 of my 6 categories for stained glass and the other two for fused jewellery and fused bowls etc. Works perfectly happily and I only have one shop to promote, one url to quote.
Good luck whichever you do x
PS looking at my Sold page I see that 10 out of the 60 are fused, the other 50 stained glass so I obviously do sell from both ‘sides’ of my single shop quite happily.
Hallo Morag
I personally feel that the fact that the jewellery/accessories are made by an artist really adds to the cachet and ethos of the range, and think it would sit well alongside your art as a separate collection in the same shop. In one way jewellery is wearable art!
thanks so much for taking the time to reply… yes I think I will just add the work into my shop once made and I’m wondering if in fact your shop is more likely to be seen if you have a variety… I just didn’t want it to look like a dogs dinner but actually I’m thinking the themes will be shorelines and buildings/history so think it could tie in after all… Thanks again xxx
Thanks so much …it looks like most folk think just keep in same shop and to be honest I much prefer the idea … thanks so much for taking the time to reply xxx
I Originally started as a bear designer then after a few years I introduced embroidered gifts and dolls. I also considered having 2 shops, but, all of the reviews and reputation would stay with Bearlescent and so the 2nd shop would be almost like starting from scratch.
When I list items in my shop I have all the bears first, then the dolls then embroidery…a bit OCD but I think it makes it easier to see the items at a glance and for those who are only interested in one genre those items are grouped together. I did worry that I was losing my identitiy as a bear maker by introducing other things but managed to tie them together with embroidery (i embroider most of the doĺls and half the bears). I think your additional crafts will be fine with your existing artwork and as you are already selling on Folksy I think as others have said, it would pay to have everything in the one shop,
I split my felted items into a separate shop, but found that maintaining and promoting two shops was too time consuming, so this year I have combined them again. Also with the ever increasing postage charges people may want to buy several small items at once (I only charge postage on first item) which doesn’t work if they are in different shops.
Thanks for advise…
Yes I get that OCD thing that’s MY issue Ill work it out somehow… I think maybe the fact that I am going to introduce more subjects into the artwork might help… The thing is sewing totally destresses me after a busy period of painting… (like Iv just had for a solo I’m totally drained) so I don’t want the sewing to start to take over as another full on thing so I’m thinking its better to have a wee corner on my shop for it rather than a big project… Thanks for dropping by… I’m going to visit all you lovely peoples shops shortly xx
